About The Position

Are you a compassionate individual who wants to make a real impact in your community? The Quincy Salvation Army Emergency Shelter is seeking dedicated Shelter Monitors to help provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. No prior social work experience? No problem! If you bring empathy, kindness, and a genuine desire to help, we’ll provide the training you need to succeed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous social work or related experience is helpful but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build trust with diverse individuals.
  • Compassionate, nonjudgmental, and professional in handling sensitive situations.
  • Ability to work independently, maintain composure, and problem-solve under pressure.
  • Basic cooking, cleaning, and computer skills for record-keeping and daily tasks.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the shelter premises to ensure safety and security for all clients and staff.
  • Maintain a welcoming and supportive environment while upholding shelter rules and policies.
  • Complete intake forms for new clients and update client files as needed.
  • Assist clients with access to basic needs like food, linens, and/or hygiene products.
  • Respond to client concerns, providing emotional support and referrals for services as appropriate.
  • Report any incidents, safety concerns, or facility maintenance needs to management.
  • Maintain shelter journals, logs, and other records including incident reports and referrals.
  • Answer phone calls, take messages, and relay information to appropriate staff members.
  • Assist in light custodial tasks including cleaning common areas, restocking supplies, and maintaining the shelter's cleanliness.
  • Prepare and serve meals to clients as required.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to stay informed and improve service delivery.
