The Radar Analog and Power Department is seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to serve as the Power System Technical Lead for Navy shipboard applications. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in the design of Power Generation/Conversion and Distribution products that meet Naval shipboard power performance requirements and have demonstrated strong leadership and planning skills with the ability to budget, direct and peer review the engineering team tasks. The candidate should have strong interpersonal skills to provide accurate progress and technical status to Customers and internally within the program. Previous experience working with customer Naval tech Warrant holders, Consultants and shipyards is highly desired. The Radar Analog and Power Department is responsible for design, product, and production support engineering in the following areas: Power System Design - Power System compliance with Naval Standards (eg. MIL-STD-1399 and MIL-STD-461), System Simulation and Modeling, High Voltage Design, Power Energy Sources, Generators Power Conversion - AC/DC, DC/DC, Power Factor Correction (PFC), Energy Storage and AC Synchronization, Noise Control mitigation Power Distribution - Ground, Air, and Shipboard, Power Generation, Line Voltage, High Current, Low Voltage, DC, AC, Multi-Phase Power Control, Fault Reporting, Isolation, Protection Circuits, Redundant Systems Power Sub-System Design - Filters, Harmonic Control, EMI, Circuit Simulation, Magnetics, Protective Relay Systems, Short Circuit, Arc Fault and Component Stress Analyses Control Systems – Power Generation Control Systems, Motor/Power/Process Control, Load Sharing

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years’ of prior relevant experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in power system design, power conversion, power distribution, power sub-system design and/or control systems
  • Experience with Naval Shipboard Electrical Standards (e.g. MIL-STD-1399, MIL-STD-917, and MIL-STD-461).
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Active and existing security clearance required after day 1

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading teams within the Naval Shipboard Power business sector.
  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Hardware development experience in the Department of Defense (DoD) environment
  • Demonstrated ability to lead/manage a technical team
  • Experience generating technical documentation and reports
  • Knowledge of test and production methods for electronics/power system components
  • Experience interfacing with procurement and manufacturing as well as external suppliers to ensure proper implementation of product designs
  • Experience managing technical, cost, and schedule risks and opportunities.
  • Experience with project management tools such as Earned Value and/or Agile Execution.
  • Proposal development experience.
  • Experience interfacing with DoD customer community
  • Existing security clearance

Responsibilities

  • Direct a varied team of engineers to develop technical solutions based on system performance and operational specifications.
  • Design, analyze, simulate, test, and document power conversion systems.
  • Resolve production / technical / installation issues related to existing Raytheon or subcontractor product designs, Travel to shipyards may be required
  • Perform design work within the bounds of a given schedule and costs.
  • Present reviews of technical data to program leadership, technical staff, and customer community.
  • Manage related risk discussions.
  • Lead small teams to success with schedule, budget, and technical execution
  • Engage in personal technical growth and facilitate technical growth in peers and junior engineers. Help to understand what opportunities are needed to mature the organization on the technical front.
  • Travel to Tewksbury, MA; Marlborough, MA; Andover, MA; Woburn, MA; may be required depending on the assignment.
  • This 1st shift role will be 100% on-site.
