About The Position

The Toledo Clinic's Sleep Diagnostics Lab is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a full-time ASTEP Sleep Technician Trainee. This role is part of a fast track program to train the candidate in all aspects of Polysomnography (PSG) acquisition and prepare them to achieve the Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) credential via the ASTEP Pathway 1. Successful candidates will receive intensive hands on training and department sponsorship for the required AAS Sleep Technologist Education Program (ASTEP) modules. This position will be scheduled 3-4 nights per week, including weekends, from 7:30pm - 5:30am. Occasional day shift hours may be required for training purposes. General Summary: This role is part of a fast-track program designed to train in all aspects of Polysomnography acquisition and prepare trainees to achieve the Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) credential via the A-STEP Pathway 1.

Requirements

  • Register with an A-STEP program upon hire and complete required online modules within 30 days of hire. The cost of the ASTEP program is covered by the department but the trainee must commit to working for the practice for at least one year.
  • Within 6 months of completion of the ASTEP modules and 960 clinical hours, it is required that the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) exam be taken to become RPSGT certified. Reimbursement for the RPSGT exam will be paid only upon successful passing of the exam. There is a one year employment commitment after reimbursement.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a healthcare career path.

  • Adheres to all clinic policies and procedures
  • Consistently arrives at work, in professional attire, on time and completes all tasks within established time frame.

  • Ability to work overnight and weekend shifts as required by the lab schedule.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a sleep lab or Pulmonary office preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete ASTEP modules within 30 days of hire.
  • Under go comprehensive training under the guidance of Senior Technologists.
  • Learn and then perform the foundational aspects of sleep study acquisition, including patient hookup, equipment calibration, and recognizing and troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Perform supervised patient care until comfort in basic procedures is demonstrated.
  • Once initial training is successfully completed, there will be a gradual increase in independence by conducting one patient per night independently, then 2 patients per night.
  • Achieve competency in conducting and monitoring three patients per night with preliminary scoring/documentation.
  • Formal assessments of technical skill, patient interaction, and charting competency will be performed.
  • After ASTEP training modules and 960 hours of Sleep Lab experience are complete, the RPSGT exam will be required.
  • Adherence to CLIA and OSHA regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
