The Smart Hands Technician is responsible for the reliable operation, maintenance, and optimization of mission-critical data center infrastructure. This role serves as a technical authority on shift, leading operational execution, mentoring junior technicians, and ensuring adherence to safety, change management, and operational excellence standards. The Smart Hands Technician plays a key role in protecting critical load, reducing operational risk, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in data center or mission-critical operations
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems
  • Ability to read one-line diagrams and OEM documentation
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work around energized equipment
  • Willingness to work shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Safety and risk management mindset
  • Strong technical judgment and leadership presence
  • Clear communication and accountability
  • Continuous improvement mindset

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in technical field
  • Industry or OEM certifications
  • Experience with BMS, EPMS, DCIM, and CMMS platforms
  • Prior leadership or acting-lead experience
  • Experience executing cross-connect requests

Responsibilities

  • Operations Leadership & Monitoring - Serve as the senior technical resource during assigned shifts
  • Monitor and manage electrical, mechanical, and environmental systems
  • Lead response to alarms, events, and abnormal conditions
  • Conduct detailed facility walkthroughs and validate system performance
  • Lead shift turnovers and status communications
  • Client Support Provide timely response and resolution to Smart Hands tickets Provide hardware support for clients Complete cross-connects as requested by the client
  • Electrical & Mechanical Systems Execution - Operate and maintain UPS, generators, switchgear, ATS/STS, PDUs, and RPPs
  • Operate and support chillers, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC units, pumps, and valves
  • Execute system switching, load transfers, and isolations per approved procedures
  • Identify system deficiencies and single points of failure
  • Maintenance & Change Management - Lead preventive and corrective maintenance activities
  • Review, validate, and execute MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs
  • Participate in change management and risk assessments
  • Oversee vendor activities and verify post-maintenance restoration
  • Safety, Compliance & Risk Management - Enforce LOTO, electrical safety, arc-flash, and PPE requirements
  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis
  • Documentation & Reporting - Maintain and review operational logs and maintenance records
  • Contribute to procedures and technical documentation
  • Training, Mentorship & Development - Mentor junior technicians and new hires
  • Support qualification programs and skill assessments
