Software Development Engineer II, AWS Security

About the position

This position is located in Herndon, VA. AWS Security is looking for a Software Development Engineer (SDE) who is excited about designing and building services that solve complex, ambiguous problems at the scale of the entire AWS cloud. Our team owns security solutions that are used by the entire company. An SDE on the team will design and develop highly scalable and available services from end-to-end. They will raise the bar for quality and delivery through mentorship of other engineers on the team. This is a highly visible role within a highly visible program at AWS and is one which provides significant opportunity to think big and deliver secure solutions for our customers.

Responsibilities

• Build on AWS for AWS, investing heavily in cloud-native and containerized technologies.
• Design architectures using purpose-driven compute and storage solutions to solve complex problems.
• Own all parts of the service from beginning to end, including data pipelines, processing, analytics, and customer interfaces.
• Perform meaningful and timely code reviews while coaching and mentoring other team members.
• Collaborate with team members to identify process improvements and define best practices.
• Automate permission management to reduce cognitive load on resource owners.

Requirements

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience of new and existing systems.
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Nice-to-haves

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
