The Global Consumer Payments Technology team is looking for top engineering talent to help drive the development of our payments platform, seamlessly roll out new payments methods, and to continuously raise the bar on our operational excellence and engineering practices. Our services are the nexus of a globally distributed system that spans many organizations. Our roadmap contains innovative programs designed to make our services fault tolerant, lower cost and improve customer perceived performance. This includes compensating for downstream services that are not Expedia Inc.'s control. We are also looking to leverage Cloud Computing (AWS) to further solidify our infrastructure. This opportunity presents our candidates with great technical challenges and the ability to have a tremendous business impact. We need to annually process $40 Billion of payments in 35 currencies in over 75 countries accurately.
Job Responsibilities
As a Software Development Engineer your primary responsibility is to design, develop, document, and thoroughly test your code. You will be given ownership of software components of the back-end (payment web services) or the front-end (admin web UI) depending on the projects in flight as well as your affinities. You will get to build your own automation and reporting tools to provide capabilities around the components / applications you own and will participate to troubleshooting Production issues.
You will join a very experienced, successful, and high-performing team and will have a unique opportunity to grow to the next level as an SDE. You will get to expand your skills in developing high quality, distributed and scalable software. You will learn best practices and how to constantly raise the bar in terms of Engineering Excellence.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1+ years Software Development work experience using modern languages (Java, C#, C++ - Java experience preferred)
Excellent coding skills
Solid understanding of Object Oriented Programming concepts, data structure, algorithms, and system level programming (including multi-threaded programming)
Good communication skills in written and verbal form
Experience testing, automating, and instrumenting your code
A degree in computer science or equivalent experience
Business Justification
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Prior experience developing and supporting Web Services is a plus.
Working knowledge of Agile Software Development methodologies (scrum, XP).

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computing related discipline
