About The Position

Mission Technologies, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is seeking a passionate Associate Software Engineer to help architect, develop, and sustain next generation solutions that directly support national level readiness. You will work as part of a team of Software Engineers building data driven planning tools, high fidelity simulation platforms, and integrated live virtual constructive (LVC) environments that mirror real world operational conditions and support mission ready training.

Requirements

  • 2 years experience with Bachelors in related field; 0 years experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 years relevant experience.
  • Strong experience building production grade distributed systems (Spring Boot, FastAPI, or similar).
  • Must have hands on expertise designing, containerizing, using Docker and orchestrating microservices using Kubernetes.
  • Must have demonstrated ability implementing scalable, cloud native microservices on Kubernetes clusters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Self driven with a high degree of initiative.
  • Understanding of the full software development lifecycle.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge developing autonomous agent architectures or AI/ML systems.
  • Experience with Helm and scalable deployment patterns.
  • Strong understanding of relational databases (e.g., Postgres) and vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Milvus).

Responsibilities

  • Architect Intelligent Agent Systems: • Design and implement autonomous multi agent workflows.
  • Define reasoning loop patterns, tool use strategies, and long term memory architectures.
  • Build reliable, interpretable, and safe agent behaviors for mission critical environments.
  • Scale Cloud-Native Infrastructure: • Architect and deploy microservices within Kubernetes based environments.
  • Ensure high availability, resilience, and performance as system complexity grows.
  • Apply containerization best practices across development and production systems.
  • Advance AI Engineering Excellence: • Lead the development of LLM evaluation strategies and automated testing frameworks.
  • Drive prompt engineering, parameter tuning, and model behavior optimization.
  • Ensure agent outputs remain accurate, safe, and aligned with mission requirements.
  • Modernize Developer Experience: • Integrate advanced AI-driven development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Copilot) into the development lifecycle and build CI/CD pipelines to maintain the team’s software.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to streamline delivery and improve reliability.
  • Champion engineering best practices across the team.
  • Provide Technical Leadership:• Translate mission level requirements into actionable technical roadmaps.
  • Mentor junior engineers in distributed systems, AI engineering, and cloud architecture.
  • Collaborate across teams to deliver cohesive, scalable, and future ready solutions.
