About the position

Bestgate Engineering is looking for Back-end software engineers! Hybrid work options are available from the Columbia, MD area. Build cutting-edge Java solutions – design, code and test microservices, RESTful APIs and enterprise-grade capabilities using Spring, Guava and other modern frameworks in an Agile environment. Development – collaborate in a fast-paced, small-business team to architect, implement, troubleshoot and deliver secure, high-quality software under multiple deadlines. Leverage modern DevSecOps tooling – Linux, Git, Maven, Nexus and automated testing, with a culture that prizes curiosity, rapid learning and rigorous QA. Hybrid workstyle – average 1-2 days a week on-site in Columbia, MD, with flexibility for schedule changes; remainder remote. Clearance & certifications – U.S. citizenship required; must be able to obtain a Secret clearance and earn DoD 8140/8570 (Security+) within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Design, code and test microservices and RESTful APIs.
  • Collaborate in a fast-paced team to architect and implement software solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and deliver secure, high-quality software under multiple deadlines.
  • Leverage modern DevSecOps tooling including Linux, Git, Maven, and Nexus.
  • Participate in automated testing and ensure rigorous QA.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience or equivalent.
  • Strong object-oriented programming (OOP) skills.
  • Experience in enterprise API design and microservices architecture.
  • Proven ability to learn quickly and thrive independently and in teams.
  • U.S. citizenship required; must be able to obtain a Secret clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Spring and Guava frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
  • Experience with DevSecOps practices.
