About The Position

As an engineer on the Data Foundation Services(DFS) team, you will contribute to designing, building , deploying and operating our best of breed database services at scale. We currently operate a large fleet of relation database clusters that support various Walmart businesses. About Team: Building the right technology foundation for Infrastructure & platforms is vital to success at the scale of Walmart. Our team builds and maintains the foundational technologies that support the tech organization. Included in this are data platforms, enterprise architecture, DevOps, cloud computing, and infrastructure. All of these products and services are supported by scalable and powerful infrastructure, ensuring a secure and seamless employee and customer experience across stores, digital channels, and distribution centers. What you'll do: Design and implement automation strategies to streamline infrastructure operations and improve deployment efficiency across platforms. Oversee the health, performance, and scalability of a large and diverse set of database environments, ensuring they meet business and technical requirements. Develop self-service capabilities that empower internal teams to manage their data and infrastructure needs independently, reducing operational overhead. Partner with cross-functional teams to understand their data challenges and provide expert guidance on structuring, architecting, and selecting the most suitable data solutions. Enhance system reliability and observability by building intelligent monitoring and recovery mechanisms that proactively detect and resolve issues using modern approaches. Requirements

  • Proficient in at least one programming language such as Java, Python, or JavaScript, and familiarity with Reactor similar frameworks.
  • Foundational understanding of relational and NoSQL databases like PostgreSQL, MySQL, MSSQL, or Cassandra.
  • Exposure to Linux operating systems, Kubernetes environments, GitHub, and CI/CD tools, with a willingness to learn cloud-native concepts.
  • Curiosity about AI/ML technologies, including Large Language Models (LLMs), and interest in how they relate to datastore technologies (e.g., pgvector etc.).
  • Openness to using tools like GitHub Copilot to support coding and development tasks.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 2 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
