About The Position

At VMware by Broadcom, we are building new possibilities for our customers by accelerating digital business transformation. We're modernizing data centers for greater agility and productivity, integrating public clouds for faster time to market, empowering digital workspaces to improve mobile experiences, and transforming cyber security. The graphics team is a key part of the VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) virtualization platform that helps deliver the latest graphics technologies to our customers. The guest graphics driver team is responsible for supporting current and developing future graphics drivers for the Windows and Linux operating systems that integrate with our virtual graphics stack. The WDDM and Linux graphics driver teams are modernizing our graphics stack to enable the latest DirectX and Vulkan features for 3D applications. We are hiring developers for both Windows and Linux guest driver teams that can contribute to both user and kernel mode parts of the driver stack. In this role the engineer is expected to successfully work on guest driver development. The candidate should be comfortable reading Microsoft documentation/graphics APIs or have a solid understanding of Linux graphics technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelors and 8+ years of related experience; Masters degree and 6+ years of related experience
  • 5+ years experience in either Windows kernel/driver development or Linux graphics driver development
  • Excellent C programming skills on Windows or Linux
  • Strong debugging skills and ability to analyze memory/kernel/graphics issues independently
  • Experience developing either a WDDM or Linux graphics driver
  • For Linux graphics driver, knowledge of Linux Direct Rendering Manager (DRM) and Kernel Mode Setting (KMS)
  • Solid understanding of operating and hardware interaction
  • Strong operating system and kernel internals knowledge with either Windows or Linux OS
  • Excellent problem-solving and cross-team collaboration skills
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of virtualization technologies
  • Linux kernel open source contributions and/or Vulkan driver development
  • ARM programming experience
