Applied Materials system to materials group is seeking a software engineering intern for summer 2026! Our team develops core software for our propriety test systems that help is the development of future technology. Our system includes real time control and measurements and post analysis data from internal and external testing.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • In good academic standing (GPA 3.7+ on a 4.0 scale).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Results‑oriented with the drive to contribute ideas, influence outcomes, and deliver successful solutions.
  • Proficiency in C and C++ required, demonstrated through projects such as a multilevel paging simulator, NFU page replacement design, and modular address‑translation tooling.
  • Required on-site work at our Santa Clara location.
  • Must be available to work during early morning hours with our Europe based team.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional experience in one or more of the following areas is a plus:
  • Designed modular C++ structs.
  • Python programming
  • Designed a responsive UI
  • Proficient using GitHub
  • good documentation skils
  • Generative AI tools, including GitHub Copilot and modern development workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and develops system software with a focus on system‑level logic—leveraging experience from C/C++ systems projects.
  • Creates prototype software modules to interface with devices, or sensors.
  • Assists in diagnosing and troubleshooting moderately complex software issues using strong debugging, problem‑solving, and modular code design techniques.
  • Develops and executes test plans using simulators or lab test benches, similar to prior testing and validation workflows used in simulation.
  • Contributes to clear and maintainable software documentation, drawing on experience writing structured, modular code across C++, Python, JavaScript, and assembly tools.
  • Collaborates closely with team members, applying strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills demonstrated through academic, project, and technical team experiences.
