About The Position

The Homeland Sector within Leidos is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to support a UK effort focused on maximizing the public safety benefits of fingerprints and facial matching. The Software Engineering Lead will play a critical role in the sustainment of the existing environment, development and delivery of new features and functionality, as well as migration to the cloud. The individual will lead and manage a team of 10+ software engineers in the United States and the United Kingdom. The position will report to the US-based Program Manager and UK-based Delivery Area Manager and Chief Engineer. The selected candidate will collaborate with other engineers, SMEs, architects, the customer, and other functional areas to design, develop, and deliver solutions. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented and a highly motivated self-starter with a demonstrated experience to successfully lead a development team. The selected candidate must communicate effectively to influence others regarding solution design, processes, and ensure milestones are consistently met.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen with at least a DoD Secret Clearance
  • Must be granted confirmation of clearance by UK government
  • BS degree and 12-15 years, or Master’s with 10-13 years, of prior relevant experience
  • 8+ years Java experience
  • Possess the knowledge and experience to perform complex and difficult system and specialty engineering tasks
  • Experience in development of technical documentation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience successfully leading software development teams

Nice To Haves

  • Biometrics system and specification (DOD, FBI, or HONE) experience
  • 3+ years C/C++ experience within the last 2 years
  • Perl, Python, and/or bash Scripting experience
  • AWS experience
  • Certified Scrum Master
  • Certified in SAFE

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 10+ software engineers focused on projects, enhancements and maintenance related to the UK system
  • Ensure the quality of software including adherence to program processes and software engineering best practices
  • Collaborate with other team members, project managers, and cross-functional areas to plan work and communicate statuses
  • Support the project in the development and improvement of the software development processes
  • Support work assignments for individuals on the software team to meet schedule for projects and releases
  • Support and develop software engineers by providing advice, coaching and educational opportunities
  • Provide leadership to teammates through coaching and mentorship
  • Monitor team performance; resolve impediments; develop and implement solutions for driving improvement
  • Develop or contribute to program deliverables, as required
  • Utilize the Atlassian suite, including Bitbucket and Jira, to support software development efforts and track work
