About The Position

Are you prepared to lead a team of talented engineers responsible for web products that lead the business aviation segment? ARINCDirect, part of the Connected Aviation unit of Collins Aerospace, has built the world's leading business aviation software platform, providing solutions to over half of the business aviation market. We provide a one-stop shop for customers that handles their planning, scheduling, and connectivity needs. As an Engineering Manager, you’ll provide leadership, technical guidance, and product vision to a team of engineers and collaborate with cross-functional partners to design and develop services, products, and infrastructure used by thousands of customers each day. Our product and service portfolio is expansive, and you will operate across our suite of customer-facing web products, as well as other integral internal systems. In this role, you will lead, support, and inspire the engineers on your team. As a hands-on leader, you’ll help them fulfill technical, operational, and business requirements. You’ll work alongside senior engineers and partners across Product, Design, Sales, Marketing, and Engineering to guide architecture and delivery of major infrastructure and product improvements. The ideal candidate will be able to solve complex technical challenges while delivering incredible improvements to product reliability and quality.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position.
  • Software engineering leadership experience working with and managing engineers across several specialties creating, delivering, and operating highly reliable, scalable services and products.
  • Individual contributor engineering experience with Python, .NET, or similar and RDBMS like PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with system/software architecture design, building large web applications and APIs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cloud technologies like AWS, Cloudflare, Vercel, Netlify, or similar.
  • Experience with microservice and API design, such as OpenAPI specifications.
  • Experience with cloud native methods, architectures, and technologies, like DevSecOps, Open Telemetry, Docker, Kubernetes, Knative, Grafana, Helm, or Istio.
  • Expertise with system reliability of backend design and implementation.
  • Experience in an agile environment with a focus on learning, rapid iteration, continuous improvement, and an openness to new approaches.
  • Experience with change management.
  • Hiring manager experience including attracting, recruiting, and retaining top engineering talent.
  • Have worked in a small company or an entrepreneurial environment with experience navigating ambiguity.
  • You are a private pilot, you are looking to pursue your private pilot license, or have a passion for aviation.

Responsibilities

  • You will lead and support a culture of collaboration, critique, and candid feedback.
  • You will mentor and grow engineers to foster an extremely high-performing team.
  • You will contribute architectural solutions and code implementations at the senior engineer level as part of your hands-on work with the team (code-review, jump starting new projects, taking on tickets).
  • You will split your time fairly evenly across people management and coding.
  • You will work with stakeholders and product owners to define roadmaps.
  • You will lead teams that ship major new improvements to a visible and important product area.
  • You will collaborate with product owners and engineering leadership to break down complex projects into smaller pieces and iterate on their design and implementation.
  • You will develop your team’s skills and advance their careers.
  • You won’t shy away from performance conversations, and you recognize the relationship between objective feedback and career growth.
  • You will assist with incident response, manage on-call rotations, SLA creation and management, and runbook creation.
  • You will represent your team and the work to audiences with differing levels of technical fluency.

  • You will work with the Talent Acquisition & HR teams to interview, onboard, and retain top talent.
