About the position

In this role, you will assist in the development of Archer's high fidelity aircraft simulators, which are crucial for validation and verification activities. Your responsibilities will include handling quality evaluations, human factor evaluations, and supporting test pilot training. You will collaborate with internal teams and suppliers to integrate, instrument, and maintain the configuration of aircraft simulation models within a real-time simulation environment. Additionally, you will be tasked with maintaining and improving the existing simulation framework that connects desktop simulations to real-time environments. Your work will also involve building software bridges between real-time simulation instrumentation and desktop simulation analysis tools, designing and building graphical user interfaces for controlling the real-time simulation environment, and writing drivers to integrate novel hardware using non-standard communication protocols. Furthermore, you will assist in executing test plans and automating tests.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of high fidelity aircraft simulators for validation and verification activities.
  • Handle quality evaluations, human factor evaluations, and test pilot training.
  • Work with internal groups and suppliers to integrate, instrument, and maintain aircraft simulation models.
  • Maintain and improve the existing simulation framework connecting desktop and real-time environments.
  • Build software bridges between real-time simulation instrumentation and desktop analysis tools.
  • Design and build graphical user interfaces for the real-time simulation environment.
  • Write drivers for integrating novel hardware with non-standard communication protocols.
  • Assist in executing test plans and test automation.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in a related field.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to architect large scale software following good design practices.
  • Proficiency in C/C++.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and Python.
  • Mastery of build systems (cmake or similar) and understanding of standard software development tools.
  • Experience with continuous integration tools like TeamCity, Jenkins, or Artifactory.
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as SVN, Git, or Bitbucket.
  • Experience with issue tracking tools like Jira, Zendesk, or MantisBT.
  • Experience prototyping Graphical User Interfaces.
  • Deep understanding of communication standards and protocols (RS-422/485, CAN, ARINC-429, AFDX, Ethernet, TCP/IP, USB, etc.).
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience developing real-time software for a Hardware-in-the-Loop aircraft simulator.
  • Experience with model-based development using Matlab/Simulink.
  • Familiarity with fault injection methodologies.
  • Familiarity with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers.
  • Experience with Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), or multi-projector technologies.
  • Experience with Agile/SCRUM methodologies and tools.
  • Experience supporting FHA evaluations.
  • Familiarity with or a passion for aviation.
