The Opportunity This entry‑level role is based in Pleasanton, CA within Abbott’s Heart Failure Division. Our teams build cloud‑based, mobile, and web solutions that help diagnose, monitor, and manage heart failure, improving both longevity and quality of life for patients. As a new graduate, you will be part of a collaborative team where you’ll learn regulated software development practices, build strong engineering discipline, and contribute directly to product quality and patient safety.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Foundational knowledge of software testing principles (coursework, internships, or projects).
  • Academic or project experience with at least one scripting or programming language such as Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
  • Exposure to test automation tools or frameworks through coursework, internships, senior projects, or personal projects.
  • Familiarity with Git or other version control systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross‑functional engineering environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with automation tools (PyTest, Jest, Playwright, REST Assured) through projects or coursework.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure Pipelines, Jenkins).
  • Basic understanding of cloud concepts or containerization (e.g., Docker).
  • Interest or coursework related to healthcare, biomedical engineering, cloud computing, or regulated software development.
  • Familiarity with privacy or compliance frameworks (HIPAA, GDPR) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to software verification activities for cloud, mobile, and web applications used in medical device ecosystems.
  • Assist in creating test plans, test cases, and verification documentation in alignment with FDA, ISO 13485, IEC 62304, and other industry standards.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers, developers, and product teams to ensure requirements are understood, testable, and traceable.
  • Participate in risk analysis, defect triage, and root‑cause investigations under the guidance of experienced team members.
  • Support the development and execution of manual and automated tests across functional, integration, system, and regression testing.
  • Help maintain and enhance test automation frameworks, working with tools such as PyTest, Jest, Playwright, or REST Assured.
  • Work within CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Azure Pipelines) to enable automated test execution.
  • Learn and apply engineering best practices in a regulated medical device environment.
  • Grow your skills through mentorship, hands‑on experience, and exposure to modern DevOps practices.
