As a Soils Summer Student, you will join our Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta offices as part of our Soils team for a 4 or 8-month term starting May 2026. The successful applicant will be involved in a broad range of soil, vegetation and wetlands projects with responsibilities as follows:

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in terrestrial ecology, biology, environmental science, renewable resource management or similar technical or undergraduate program at a recognized post-secondary institution
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• A valid class 5 driver’s license with no restrictions
• Cares about their safety and the safety of others
• Brings knowledge of terrestrial sciences and assessment practices
• Works easily in a team
• Is thoughtful, thorough and inquisitive in completing office and field tasks
• Has energy and desire to support others and respond to the changing needs of a dynamic environment
• Applicants must have legal authorization to work in Canada with no restrictions.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with off-highway vehicles (i.e., ARGO, UTV) and trailer towing would be considered an asset

Responsibilities

• Active participation in maintaining Montrose’s strong safety culture
• Assist with the execution of soils and vegetation surveys
• Assist with field survey data collection
• Travel, often to remote locations, will be required to carry out field programs.
