This role is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive project estimates while helping develop the tools, vendor relationships, and cost data infrastructure that support our long-term estimating strategy. The estimator will work closely with Business Development, Engineering, Procurement, and Operations to deliver well-structured bids and maintain a scalable estimating process. The successful candidate will possess a strong blend of technical solar estimating expertise, electrical construction knowledge, and organizational skills. This individual must demonstrate proficiency in estimating software, cost modeling, and risk evaluation while supporting business development efforts and delivering optimal financial outcomes. This role will help shape GenPro’s estimating systems, vendor relationships, and cost database as we scale our national solar & BESS EPC pipeline.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of solar electrical estimating experience (EPC environment strongly preferred).
  • Hands-on electrical construction experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to interpret full construction drawing sets (civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to deliver estimates on time in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong understanding of solar PV system components and balance-of-system materials.
  • Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA, UL, and ISA standards as they relate to solar PV design and construction.
  • Understanding of area classification requirements related to design and documentation.
  • Knowledge of wiring methods, conductor sizing, de-rating, grounding, bonding, and insulation classifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, site layouts, and wiring diagrams
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to evaluate, modify, and customize estimating software assemblies for project-specific requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Experience estimating community solar, municipal, or utility-scale solar PV projects.
  • Familiarity with interconnection processes, utility standards, and AHJ requirements.
  • Experience supporting Design-Build or EPC contracts.
  • NABCEP Certification, preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Review project drawings, specifications, Request for Information (RFI), and Request for Proposal (RFP) documents to fully define project scope.
  • Build and manage Procore data rooms and bid folders to organize project documentation and internal collaboration.
  • Identify missing scope elements, clarifications, and assumptions during early bid review.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs from electrical drawings and site plans.
  • Develop Bills of Materials (BOMs) for PV arrays, inverters, transformers, switchgear, cabling, grounding, racking, and balance-of-system components.
  • Validate specifications against vendor equipment standards and project requirements.
  • Develop detailed cost estimates including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and logistics.
  • Utilize estimating software, historical GenPro project data, and market pricing to build competitive cost models.
  • Incorporate regional labor productivity, freight, taxes, and scheduling impacts.
  • Collaborate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing and scope alignment.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals and ensure alignment with project scope and technical requirements.
  • Maintain relationships with key suppliers to support accurate and timely bid development.
  • Evaluate site conditions and constructability risks.
  • Support internal leadership with profitability modeling and bid strategy discussions.
  • Identify opportunities for value engineering or scope optimization.
  • Prepare complete bid packages including: Summary cost sheets. Detailed labor and material breakdowns. Scope assumptions and exclusions.
  • Submit bids through client procurement portals and internal approval processes.
  • Maintain and improve estimating databases, assemblies, and pricing templates.
  • Analyze historical project performance and cost trends to improve estimate accuracy.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of GenPro’s estimating tools, bid processes, and cost benchmarking.
  • Work closely with Business Development, Engineering, Procurement, and Operations during the bid process.
  • Support estimating needs during design development, value engineering, and change order pricing.
