About The Position

Solder Intermediate High Level Mission Statement Assist in the production of on-time, high-quality deliveries to our customers by performing skilled soldering and touch-up tasks on electronic assemblies. High Level Statement of the Role The Solder Intermediate role is responsible for the removal, replacement, and formation of solder joints on electronic assemblies to meet company and industry standards.

Technical Skills Use of all relevant equipment: tweezers, solder iron and hot air pencil. Use soldering aids: solder braid, flux, roll solder, solder paste, isopropyl alcohol. Perform solder removal/replacement for insufficient/excess solder, and assembly soldering. Understand lead/lead-free soldering, automated surface mount, and wave solder processes. Read and follow touch-up procedures. Possess good computer navigation and reading/math skills. Hold IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 certifications.
Communication Skills Communicate effectively with all areas and levels. Strong listening, verbal, writing, and documentation skills.

Component Adjustment: Accurate placement of components with minimal PCB damage.
Solder Joint Formation: Produce reliable, high-quality solder joints that meet IPC acceptability criteria, including proper wetting, fillet formation, and avoidance of defects such as cold joints and bridging.
Pad Preparation & Bridge Removal: Safe removal of excess solder and bridges.
Inspection Skills: Inspect soldered connections for compliance with IPC-A-610 requirements, identifying issues such as insufficient solder, non-wetting, and damage to pads or traces.
Cleanliness: Clean assemblies as needed, mindful of customer requirements.
Documentation: Accurately document solder anomalies in defect recording systems and properly document all work performed on assemblies.
ESD Precautions: Consistent application of ESD protection.
Documentation: Accurate recording of anomalies and work performed.

Responsibilities

Check ESD compliance as needed and apply ESD protection practices to safeguard sensitive electronic components.
Follow KEJ’s Quality Management System (QMS) for all operations.
Perform manual soldering and touch-up using appropriate equipment and tools
Remove and replace solder to correct bridging, insufficient solder, excess solder, and other defects using soldering iron, solder wick, and related aids.
Inspect solder joints for compliance with IPC-A-610 standards, focusing on proper wetting, fillet formation, and defect avoidance (cold joints, blowholes, bridging, etc.).
Utilize manual desoldering techniques to safely remove excess solder.
Clean assemblies as required are based on flux type, considering customer time constraints.
Document solder anomalies and all work performed on assemblies in defect recording systems.
Navigate paperless documents, quality alerts, defect codes, and work instructions.
Fill out MRB tags for non-conforming material and locations; know line locations for non-conforming material.
Perform daily checks of equipment calibration and calibration labels.
Verify correct solder, fixture, iron temperature, parts, polarity, and orientation per process instructions and color guides.
Participate in performance feedback and continuous improvement initiatives.
Monitor assemblies being scrapped and notify supervisor/support of repeat or recurring quality issues.
Follow MSD procedures for moisture-sensitive devices.
Comply with all Safety, ESD, 6S and QMS requirements, including emergency procedures (e.g., Emergency Stop Button).
