About The Position

The Solutions Architect serves as a trusted and preferred technology consultant to all Unitherians. This dynamic, problem-solving role maintains high-level knowledge of the inner workings of UT business technology systems across the enterprise and is focused on ensuring technology efficacy while reducing operational overhead and risk. This role also provides technical oversight to IT operations teams by serving as a technical reviewer within the established IT Change Management process, ensuring that technology changes are well planned and properly executed, and is responsible for solving problems, analyzing and improving processes, and presenting findings and recommendations to a wide array of Unitherians. Engages with IT and functional stakeholders to conceptually define business processes, align them to appropriate technology solutions, and represent UT’s technology interests on projects with significant technology impact Translates functional and technical requirements into solution architecture and provides build and deployment guidance to software developers and infrastructure engineers Facilitates the design of scalable, supportable systems through selective implementation of technology stacks that can readily be supported by a wide ecosystem of service providers, as well as technically skilled UT staff Reviews contracts, statements of work, and other binding agreements that commit UTC to the acquisition, procurement and/or utilization of technology or technology service providers Assists UT business units with identifying and evaluating technology partners and actively maintains relationships with strategic vendors to remain informed of evolving capabilities and risks Maintains a keen awareness of leading and emerging technologies and evaluates their fit within UT’s financial, security, and operational requirements Contributes to the creation and maintenance of the enterprise technology inventory and monitors the utilization, versioning, and overall health of systems across the portfolio Creates and maintains technology system and process documentation, including business requirements, reference architectures, and system design specifications Ensures that new technologies released to production are well understood, appropriately documented, and effectively socialized to support related business processes Serves as a subject matter authority on UT‑owned technology systems and their functional capabilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in computer information systems, business administration, computer science, or a related field or 5+ years of experience in an information technology engineering role with a Bachelor's degree or 3+ years of experience in an information technology engineering role with a Master's degree
  • 2+ years of experience with information security concepts and related technologies
  • 2+ years of experience with designing, deploying, managing, and maintaining Cloud-based technologies and services
  • Demonstrated experience designing end-to-end technology solutions, including defining architecture patterns, integration points, and non-functional requirements (e.g., scalability, reliability, security, performance)
  • Experience architecting / designing solutions for at least one Hyperscale public cloud platform: Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS, Google Cloud Platform, etc.
  • Experience using automation and scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) to design or implement repeatable, automated solutions and reduce manual operational effort
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating, selecting, and recommending technology solutions based on business requirements, architectural trade offs, and risk considerations
  • Experience creating and maintaining architecture documentation and visual artifacts (e.g., solution diagrams, design documents, standards) to support technical and business stakeholders
  • Ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical business stakeholders, engineers, vendors, and leadership to drive alignment, influence technical decisions, and balance competing priorities
  • Strong attention to detail when reviewing technical documentation, solution designs, vendor proposals, contracts, and statements of work

Nice To Haves

  • Experience architecting / designing solutions for Microsoft Azure
  • Experience integrating technologies into in a Microsoft 365 (M365 / O365) Enterprise cloud environment and related core services including: Entra, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online
  • Experience with relational database platforms (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server), including architecture, deployment models, and operational considerations (not including writing database code)
  • Familiarity with common web hosting platforms and web server technologies (e.g., IIS, Apache) and their role in enterprise solution architectures
  • Experience designing and evaluating system integrations using common enterprise patterns (e.g., APIs, event-driven architectures, data exchange, middleware)
  • Experience with Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and low-code/no-code automation platforms (e.g., Microsoft Power Platform)
