Department DH ULTRASOUND PAV L The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing ultrasound imaging by operating sonographic equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic images of patients' internal body structures. These images support physicians in diagnosing medical conditions and guiding treatment decisions. The technologist works closely with patients to ensure they understand procedures and remain comfortable throughout the process while maintaining optimum timeliness, accuracy, proficiency, efficiency, and safety. Additionally, the Ultrasound Technologist assists physicians in performing assigned procedures and plays an active role in training students and fellow sonographers. This role requires maintaining proficiency in emerging ultrasound technologies and procedural advancements, participating in departmental initiatives such as protocol development and process improvement, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Requirements

  • Completion of two-year hospital or college program accredited by the American Medical Association Required
  • Must hold and maintain at least 3 ARDMS specialty registries in addition to initial registry
  • 4-6 years Ultrasound experience Required
  • RDMS-Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - ARDMS - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography Required or ARRT-Radiologic Technologists - ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Required
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required
  • Advanced Ultrasound Imaging Skills – Proficient in performing complex and specialty ultrasound exams with high diagnostic accuracy, ensuring patient safety and image quality.
  • Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge – Strong understanding of accreditation and compliance standards (e.g., Joint Commission, ACR) to maintain department and institutional requirements.
  • Leadership & Mentorship Abilities – Capable of mentoring and precepting Level I technologists and students, fostering professional growth and adherence to best practices.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration – Ability to work effectively with radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to enhance patient care and streamline workflow efficiency.
  • Technical & Equipment Proficiency – Skilled in operating and troubleshooting ultrasound equipment while staying up to date on emerging technologies and procedural advancements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced ultrasound examinations, including complex and specialty imaging studies, ensuring high-quality diagnostic results and patient safety. (25%)
  • Maintain proficiency in emerging ultrasound technologies, diagnostic techniques, and procedural advancements through continuing education. (20%)
  • Mentor and precept Level I technologists and students, providing guidance on scanning techniques, workflow efficiencies, and protocol adherence. (20%)
  • Demonstrate leadership in departmental initiatives, including protocol development, process improvement, and equipment evaluation. This includes serving as shift lead in absence of department supervisor. (10%)
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards and accreditation requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, ACR). (5%)
  • Take an active role in staff training, department meetings, and quality assurance initiatives. (5%)
  • Assist with policy and protocol development related to ultrasound imaging and procedural guidelines. (5%)
  • Collaborate with radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to enhance patient care and workflow efficiency. (5%)
  • Assist in supply management, including ordering and inventory oversight, as needed. (5%)
