About The Position

The Sous Chef at Maine Beer Company plays a key leadership role in overseeing daily kitchen operations and supporting the Head Chef in delivering high-quality, consistent food. This position is responsible for fostering a positive, professional, and team-oriented kitchen environment while maintaining efficiency in a fast-paced, high-volume setting.The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, hands-on leader who thrives under pressure, leads by example, and is passionate about food quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement. The Sous Chef reports directly to the Head Chef. Salary is commensurate with experience. Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of culinary experience
  • At least 2 years of leadership or management experience in a kitchen environment
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • ServSafe certification preferred (or ability to obtain)
  • Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with standard office software
  • Ability to stand and work on your feet for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with pizza and wood-fired cooking is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Support the Head Chef in all aspects of daily kitchen operations
  • Lead, coach, and motivate kitchen staff to maintain a positive team culture and high morale
  • Collaborate with the Head Chef on menu development, execution, and consistency
  • Demonstrate proficiency across all kitchen stations and step in as needed
  • Maintain composure and effective decision-making in a high-pressure environment
  • Provide consistent leadership across all shifts, ensuring smooth and efficient operations
  • Delegate tasks effectively and hold team members accountable for performance
  • Uphold and enforce kitchen standards, procedures, and SOPs
  • Manage inventory and place orders as needed to support operations
  • Ensure the kitchen is clean, organized, and operating in compliance with sanitation standards
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and best practices
  • Monitor staff scheduling, hours, and attendance in coordination with leadership
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding new kitchen staff
  • Support a high level of guest satisfaction through quality and timely food execution
