The Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, technology development, warfighter capability enablers, systems integration, defense industrial base, and threat reduction to help shape existing and future space missions across the national security space (NSS) enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including the U.S. Space Force, U.S. Space Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of technical support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers’ portfolios as well as horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation. Additionally, DSG provides deep technical expertise to the Space Force Space Systems Command (SSC) in the conception, design, acquisition, launch and operations of satellite, launch vehicle, ground control, and range systems. The Space Systems Engineer is responsible for providing technical assessments of foreign space systems and leveraging technical intelligence to outpace the threat. Primary responsibilities include providing engineering support to our customers at the National Space Intelligence Center (NSIC) as part of the Project West Wing (PWW) team co-located with the customer. The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH.

Requirements

  • Minimum Requirements - Project Engineer - Systems and Scientific & Technical Intelligence Engineering: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in science, engineering, or mathematics
  • 8 or more years of professional experience in aerospace engineering or related field
  • Demonstrated interest in and understanding of relevant satellite threat technologies and their applications; e.g., electronic warfare, directed energy, high power microwaves, kinetic effects, cyber
  • Experience in satellite systems analysis executing range of engineering and modeling tools
  • Experience in analysis of onboard satellite data processing, onboard decision-making, and mission-enabling software to execute onboard processes
  • Understanding of cyber aspects of space systems analysis including space system cyber security
  • Must be comfortable in a rapidly changing environment and have a strong demonstrated personal initiative
  • Experience working closely with government teams on integrated FFRDC projects at a customer location
  • Superior written and oral communications skills and ability to work with other analysts and customers as a team player
  • Flexibility to learn new tools/capabilities as needed
  • Willing to travel 10% approx.
  • This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government.
  • U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree from an accredited program in science, engineering, or mathematics
  • 8 or more years of experience in the analytic space intelligence community
  • Demonstrated project management skills across multiple engineering disciplines
  • Proficiency in interfacing with government customers and military leadership

Responsibilities

  • Acting as technical contributor, consultant, and primary project coordinator on space system engineering analysis projects
  • Partnering with government teams to produce impactful technical assessments of space systems
  • Working with technical intelligence at customer location to increase value of analytical results
  • Leveraging engineering analytic tools informed by technical intelligence to assess space system performance parameters
  • Facilitating interaction between customers and Aerospace technical and management staff
  • Coordinating large-scale technical efforts across program/project lines
  • Providing strategic leadership to resiliency efforts within the US space enterprise
