About The Position

Space Systems Production Manager Overview Our client is seeking a Space Systems Production Manager to lead production across satellite and launch-system hardware in a high-reliability manufacturing environment. This role owns the end-to-end build—from materials and planning through assembly, test, and shipment—while using AI-enabled tools to improve scheduling, resource allocation, and throughput. Youll lead and develop a skilled team of technicians and ensure safety, quality, and on-time delivery across all programs. What Youll Own Production Leadership (End-to-End) Drive daily execution across the full production lifecycle: receiving kitting assembly integration test delivery Establish clear priorities and resolve constraints across people, equipment, and supply chain Ensure builds meet schedule, cost, quality, and compliance expectations AI-Enabled Planning & Scheduling Implement and run AI-supported scheduling to create dynamic production plans that adjust to downtime, shortages, and staffing changes Use predictive analytics to surface bottlenecks early and drive corrective actions Integrate scheduling insights with ERP/MES to improve utilization, reduce changeovers, and increase throughput Team Leadership & Workforce Optimization Lead a multidisciplinary technician and production staff team; set standards for performance, accountability, and continuous improvement Optimize staffing and shift coverage using workforce planning tools (skills-based allocation, workload balancing, labor compliance) Partner with automation teams to safely integrate cobots/automated stations with human workflows Training, Readiness & Technician Development Build scalable training programs (simulations, modules, job aids) to accelerate ramp-up and reduce defects Leverage AR/visual guidance tools where applicable to improve build quality and speed Use performance data to identify skill gaps and tailor development plans Quality, Test & Delivery Assurance Monitor KPIs in real time (yield, cycle time, rework, scrap, schedule attainment) and drive rapid issue resolution Implement/operate AI-driven inspection approaches (e.g., machine vision) to detect defects earlier Ensure flight hardware readiness through required test flows (e.g., thermal vacuum, vibration, acoustic) Oversee packaging, handling, and logistics to safely deliver satellites to launch locations (including climate control protocols when needed)

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field (advanced degree preferred)
  • 7+ years of progressive manufacturing/operations leadership, including meaningful experience in aerospace/space production
  • Demonstrated experience applying AI/ML/advanced automation to planning, execution, quality, or operations
  • Strong knowledge of Lean / Six Sigma / continuous improvement
  • Hands-on experience with ERP and MES systems
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and scale technical teams in fast-paced environments
  • U.S. Person or lawful permanent resident (export-control compliance)

Nice To Haves

  • Tools: Odoo ERP, Teamcenter PLM, First Resonance ION MES, Confluence, Jira
  • High-rate, high-reliability production environments
  • Spacecraft Assembly, Integration & Test (AI&T) practices
  • Aerospace/defense and/or government contract environments
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification(s)
