About The Position

York Space Systems was founded to radically improve spacecraft affordability and reliability, transforming, and enabling next- generation space mission operations worldwide. Today, York is one of the most innovative aerospace companies, specializing in end-to-end customer solutions and the rapid production of spacecraft platforms. York’s complete Space Segment Solution includes spacecraft production, payload integration, system integration & test, launch services, ground segment services, and mission operations, enabling customers to leverage York’s existing technology solutions to get to orbit rapidly and responsively. We’re looking to expand our team across the board. Space Vehicle Automation (SVA) Engineers are responsible for the design, development, and scaling of automation systems supporting spacecraft testing, verification, and operations. A Senior candidate for this role serves as a technical leader within the automation team, driving the implementation of robust software frameworks and tooling used across spacecraft development, environmental testing, mission rehearsals, and on-orbit operations. SVA engineers partner closely with Flight Software, Systems Engineering, and Test teams to ensure automation infrastructure supports program schedules, mission milestones, and reliable spacecraft performance. Ideal candidates are proactive, systems-focused engineers with strong software skills and experience working with space hardware, particularly small satellites and related components.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in software development, automation engineering, system verification, or mission operations.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and experience developing automation frameworks or engineering tools.
  • Experience working in Linux environments with Git-based workflows.
  • Experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines and automated testing infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience working with space systems or spacecraft hardware, including integration and test activities.
  • Experience supporting system-level testing or verification of complex hardware/software systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with automated hardware/software testing, hardware-in-the-loop systems, or spacecraft verification.
  • Familiarity with telemetry systems, command interfaces, APIs, simulation frameworks, or embedded systems.
  • Experience supporting spacecraft environmental testing (vibration, thermal vacuum, thermal cycling).
  • Background in aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated engineering environments.
  • Experience supporting spacecraft mission operations.
  • Active Secret security clearance or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with Flight Software and Test Engineering to integrate automation into spacecraft verification and operations workflows.
  • Contribute to design reviews, test readiness reviews, and major program milestones by representing automation and test software capabilities.
  • Support cross-functional teams during critical integration, test, and mission activities.
  • A Senior SVA Engineer will serve as a technical leader within the automation team, providing guidance on automation architecture, best practices, and system design.
  • Design, develop, and maintain Python-based automation frameworks used for spacecraft testing, system verification, and mission rehearsal.
  • Develop automation tools for hardware-in-the-loop testing, telemetry monitoring, command execution, and data validation.
  • Build scalable test infrastructure supporting automated verification campaigns, environmental testing, and spacecraft integration activities.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated test execution, and software quality processes.
  • Maintain and improve mission support tools used during pre-flight testing and on-orbit operations.
  • Support spacecraft verification campaigns, integration testing, and mission rehearsals through automation development and execution.
  • Develop automated workflows for telemetry analysis, command sequences, test orchestration, and anomaly detection.
  • Assist with environmental qualification testing including vibration, thermal cycling, thermal vacuum, and deployment testing.
  • Support on-orbit operations through automation tools for telemetry processing, command workflows, and rapid troubleshooting.
  • Ensure automation systems are well documented, maintainable, and scalable across multiple spacecraft programs.
