Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) located in scenic Upstate NY is a multi-campus College with locations in Troy and Malta New York. Department: Physical Plant Special Assignment Custodial Worker HV-CS-8671 In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. Must be either a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States. Candidates will need to complete a successful background check, physical and back x-ray prior to assignment. RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have been legal residents of New York State for at least FOUR months. Pursuant to subdivision 4a of Sec. 23 of the Civil Service Law, preference may be given to successful candidates who have been legal residents of the municipality to which the appointment is to be made for at least FOUR months.

Requirements

• Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency and two years of experience as a Custodial Worker and able to do heavy lifting (or) Five years experience as a Custodial Worker and the ability to take direction and perform heavy lifting (or) and equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs.
• Working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment; ability to get along well with others and be in good physical condition to perform essential job tasks.
• Must possess a valid New York State Driver’s License at time of employment.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for inventory, stocking & delivery of supplies to campus and off campus locations.
• Mandated to work during periods of heavy overtime.
• Manage the Scrap pickup and disposal of campus wide recyclables, assist with removal of Surplus sale items.
• In Lieu of short staffing issues, performs all the responsibilities and duties of a Custodial worker.
• Training in Ladder and portable lift for specific high cleaning duties.
• Set up meeting and conference rooms and related spaces for daily/weekly events.
• Set up Large event equipment needs for internal and external clients. HS graduations, Honors, Galas, Airport, etc.
• Transport and manage medical waste removal.
• Assist Technical services with transporting of animal remains to incinerator.
• Transport hazardous waste to shed, i.e., oily rags, batteries, contaminates etc.
• Off campus setups and deliveries, Malta, Tec Smart…
• Pickup, delivery, & return of Artwork from NYC for fine arts program.
• Early arrival for Snow emergencies.
• Assisting maintenance with delivery of construction material to campus locations for repairs.
• Confidential shredding pickup and disposal in secure manner.
• Various training certificates, Ladder, Lift, Hazardous waste, Defensive driving etc.
• Completes other duties as assigned.
