POSITION SUMMARY: The Special Education Teacher / Resource Specialist will work with Special Education designated students, both in and out of the general education classroom. Ingenium Schools uses an inclusion model for special education.

Requirements

  • Techniques and resources utilized in assessing, instructing, and evaluating students.
  • Laws, regulations, and California Education Code pertaining to Special Education
  • Assess needs and appropriate learning materials for classroom use.
  • Work cooperatively with parents, community and colleagues
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written form
  • Effectively utilize computer technology in day-to-day work.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and collaborative working relationship with a variety of staff and other professionals
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Three years’ experience as a credentialed teacher preferred, Special Education experience preferred
  • Experience in a California Charter School preferred
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and California Education Code pertaining to Special Education
  • Must hold a current, valid California Education Services credential with Autism Authorization
  • CPR/First Aid Certified (Will be provided, if certification is not current)

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction and services for students with disabilities who have been identified in an Individualized Education Program and are assigned to regular classrooms
  • Coordinate the referral, assessment and placement procedures for students referred to the Resource Specialist Program
  • Participate in academic testing
  • Write Individualized Education Plans for students
  • Coordinate special education services with the regular school programs
  • Schedule and attend IEP meetings, as needed
  • Timely record IEP minutes, as needed and required
  • Collaborate with regular classroom teachers to provide accommodations and modifications as written on student IEPs
  • Monitor student’s progress, coordinate the review and revision of their individualized education programs, and refer students to the individualized education program team
  • Oversee SPED aides provision of RSP minutes and create their weekly schedule
  • Meet with SPED aides on a regular basis to ensure compliance and provide training
  • Provide information and assistance to students and to their parents
  • Provide consultation, resource information, and educational material to student’s parents, and to general education teachers
  • Coordinate inservice sessions and workshops for teachers and parents
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal and/or director of student services
  • Attend mandatory training as required by the position
  • Continually improve: proactively look for ways to improve skills and processes
