About The Position

In this role, you will work closely with certified special education teachers to support students with disabilities, helping them access learning, build skills, and grow both academically and socially. What You'll Do 📚 Instructional Support Work one-on-one or in small groups to help students with academic tasks and skill development Reinforce lessons and activities led by the special education teacher Assist with differentiated instruction and adapted learning materials Provide tutoring support in reading, writing, math, or functional life skills 🧩 Classroom & Behavioral Support Support the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and positive behavior strategies Assist with classroom routines, transitions, and supervision Use trauma-informed practices and de-escalation techniques when needed Help maintain a safe, structured, and encouraging learning environment 🎯 Student & IEP Support Assist teachers in implementing student accommodations and modifications outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) Help collect data related to student progress on academic or behavioral goals Encourage independence, social skills, and self-regulation among students 📝 Substitute Coverage (When Needed) Follow lesson plans and classroom procedures during staff absences Support classroom continuity and maintain established routines Communicate observations or concerns to supervising staff 🤝 Accessibility & Personal Care Support (When Applicable) Assist students with mobility, feeding, hygiene, or toileting as required by their IEP Support the use of assistive technology or adaptive equipment Maintain student dignity, privacy, and safety at all times What We're Looking For Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Ability to work effectively with students with diverse learning and behavioral needs Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively as part of a team Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a school or special education environment Paraprofessional certification or college coursework in education or a related field Experience supporting students with behavioral, emotional, or sensory needs Training in CPI, de-escalation, or behavior management strategies Key Skills for Success Patience, empathy, and flexibility Strong observation and communication skills Ability to support students with a variety of learning needs Commitment to student safety, respect, and success Reliability and professionalism Working Environment This position works in a school setting , including classrooms, hallways, and occasionally community-based environments.
