About The Position

We are seeking a skilled Instructional Materials Designer to develop innovative, evidence-based educational resources for special education teachers working with students who have complex communication needs. This role focuses on creating materials that enhance language and communication skills through research-based methodologies.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Special Education with a focus on Severe Disabilities
  • Minimum 1 years experience working with students with complex communication needs
  • Evidence of successfully completing, at a minimum, one university level AAC course
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based practices in language development and AAC
  • Experience in instruction design and material development
  • Proficiency in Boardmaker, SymbolStix, and Microsoft products

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in special education or speech-language pathology
  • Experience with assistive technology and communication devices
  • Knowledge of universal design for learning UDL principles

Responsibilities

  • Design and devlop instructional materials, tools, and resources specifically for students with complex communication needs
  • Research and integrate current evidence-based practices in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), language development, and special education
  • Collaborate with team members to identify material needs and effectiveness
  • Create adaptable resources that can be customized for various communication levels and learning styles
  • Develop implementation guides and training materials for special education teachers and speech-language pathologist
  • Evaluate and revise materials based on feedback
