About The Position

Responsible for performing high-level disinfection and terminal cleaning of the Operating Room (OR), procedural suites, and Sterile Processing to maintain a sterile and infection-free environment. This role ensures compliance with hospital policies, infection prevention standards, and regulatory guidelines. Terminal Cleaning & Disinfection: Conducts thorough terminal cleaning of the departments after surgical procedures, ensuring all surfaces, equipment, and high-touch areas are properly disinfected. Follows AORN and CDC guidelines for environmental infection control, including using approved disinfectants and techniques. Cleans and disinfects surgical lights, anesthesia equipment, walls, floors, ceilings, furniture, and all horizontal and vertical surfaces. Uses appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follows standard precautions for infection control. Compliance & Quality Assurance: Adheres to hospital infection prevention protocols to reduce the risk of surgical site infections (SSIs). Follows hospital and regulatory guidelines for waste disposal, biohazard handling, and chemical usage. Ensures proper documentation of cleaning schedules, processes, and any concerns noted during cleaning. Participates in environmental rounds, audits, and quality improvement initiatives for surgical area cleanliness. Equipment & Supply Management: Properly operates and maintains hospital-approved cleaning equipment, UV-C disinfection devices when applicable. Ensures the correct dilution and application of disinfectants to meet manufacturer and hospital requirements. Reports any damaged or malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor. Collaboration & Communication: Works closely with surgical staff, infection control teams, and environmental services leadership to ensure OR cleaning meets hospital standards. Responds promptly to urgent cleaning needs, turnovers, and emergency procedures. Communicates effectively with team members regarding any potential hazards or needed process improvements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of terminal cleaning and department specific competencies required within one week of hire.
  • Strong understanding of disinfection procedures and infection control standards.
  • Ability to follow written protocols, checklists, and hospital policies.
  • Attention to detail and precision in cleaning high-risk environments.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced surgical setting.
  • Demonstrates/verbalizes proper patient transport techniques
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Previous hospital housekeeping experience preferred, especially in surgical or sterile environments.
  • Experience with terminal cleaning in an OR or procedural setting strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of infection control principles, aseptic techniques, and hospital cleaning standards is a plus.
