About The Position

Nevada City School of the Arts (NCSOTA), a TK-8 charter school in operation since 1994, is seeking a dynamic, culturally aware, stimulating and highly qualified Speech and Language Pathology Assistant to join our team. SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Program Specialist and the Executive Director this position provides speech and language therapy, under the supervision of the Speech and Language Pathologist, to students who have a variety of communicative disorders.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of: Speech and language pathology equipment, materials, and procedures; Normal speech, language, and hearing development; Language disorders and rehabilitation; Articulation disorders and rehabilitation; Acquired disorders and rehabilitation; Terminology related to communicative disorders; Learning patterns in children; Student behavior management techniques and strategies; Learning difficulties of children with special education needs; AAC devices and other assistive technology; English usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammar; Basic math skills; Routine office procedures and recordkeeping; Standard software applications including iPad applications.

Have proficient knowledge (or be willing and able to learn) about SEIS (our on-line special education information system) and Google Suite applications (Google Classroom, Calendar, Hangout, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.)
  • Associate's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders OR Graduation from a speech-language pathology assistant program; AND Current registration as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) issued by the California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board.
  • Fingerprint and Background clearance
  • Valid Tuberculosis clearance and every four years thereafter
  • CPR/First Aid Certification within 45 days of employment and every two years thereafter
  • Completion of mandatory training (video & in-person) within 6 weeks of employment and every year thereafter.
  • Possess and maintain a valid form of transportation (ie: California Motor Vehicle Operator's license)
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information; seeing to perform assigned duties.
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment and perform assigned duties.
  • Kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, to retrieve and store files and supplies; lifting, pushing and/or pulling up to 50 pounds; lifting moderately heavy objects.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior SLPA experience in educational or clinical settings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide speech and language therapy to students who have a variety of handicapping conditions.
  • Follow and implement documented treatment plans or protocols.
  • Document student progress toward meeting established objectives and goals
  • Report student progress to the speech therapist.
  • Administer speech and language screenings (without interpretation) to identify the language and speech needs of referred students.
  • Organize and maintain records as required by law and District policy and practice.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with district and county personnel, parents, students and the community.
