About The Position

Minneapolis College, a vibrant and inclusive two-year community college in Minnesota, is accepting applications for the permanent, full-time position of Communication Studies Instructor in the Communication Studies Program within the School of Liberal Arts and Cultures.

Requirements

  • Master's degree with a major in speech, speech communication, or communication, or communication studies or Master's degree in any discipline/field with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credits (27 graduate quarter credits) in speech, speech communication, or communication, or communication studies.
  • Teaching and Learning Competency Requirement (to be completed within first three years of employment)

Nice To Haves

  • Community College Experience – two or more years of teaching experience in a community or combined community and technical college
  • Autonomous classroom teaching experience with Introduction to Communication Studies, Public Speaking, Small Group Communication, Intercultural Communication, and/or Interpersonal Communication.
  • Demonstrated teaching or background in any of the following areas: Environmental Communication, Gender, Argumentation, and Health Communication.
  • Experienced in delivering instruction across multiple modalities, including fully online and blended models.
  • Evidence of a strong and clear understanding of and commitment to equity-informed pedagogical practices.
  • Assessment – experience with the development of assessment strategies and practices across all levels: classroom, department, and college.
  • Service to the College – a proven willingness to participate through committee work and/or student activities.
  • Student-centered – demonstrated contributions to student growth and development through retention measures, student mentoring, and student activities.

Responsibilities

  • Teach full-time (30 credits/year) of college-level courses in Communication Studies, primarily college-level introductory courses.
  • Deliver instruction in multiple modalities, including on-campus, blended, synchronous and asynchronous online formats.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of curriculum and instructional materials within the Communication Studies department.
  • Participate in student assessment.
  • Assessment of student learning outcomes at the course, department, Transfer Pathway in Communication Studies, and college general education levels.
  • Actively engage in the college community through committee work and interdepartmental collaboration.
  • Commitment to providing quality instruction and services to a diverse student population.
  • Maintain collegial and cooperative work relationships with colleagues in the department, department support staff, and all college personnel.
  • Schedule may include daytime, evenings, or Saturdays.
