About The Position

Diagnoses and treats individuals with speech-language, cognitive-communicative and swallowing disabilities and performs orientation training to patient, family members, and/or caregivers related to communication and swallowing disorders. The population served includes individuals affected by stroke, orthopedic related conditions, brain and spinal cord injury, amputation, major multiple trauma, and other neurological and medical conditions. REHAB’s patients range from pre-teen to geriatric age ranges. REHAB Hospital of the Pacific (REHAB) is Hawaii's only premier, acute-care rehabilitation hospital dedicated to providing high-quality, comprehensive and innovative inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services. Our clinical team of comprehensive rehabilitation experts and specialized programs serve individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities from injury or disease, including stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, complex orthopedics, chronic pain and more.

Requirements

  • Current State of Hawaii SP licensure.
  • Current ASHA membership card (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association).
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology by the American Speech-Language & Hearing Association.
  • Current BLS certification
  • Completion of competencies and other job-related and REHAB requirements.
  • Master’s Degree in Speech and Language Pathology
  • Knowledge of general speech and language and dysphagia theory and practice including those basic principles related to speech-language therapy and dysphagia techniques and methods specific to rehab speech-language pathology and dysphagia.
  • Knowledge of literature and new developments in speech-language pathology with emphasis on rehabilitation.
  • Ability to safely and effectively manage patients’ mobility.
  • Ability to clearly communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to safely provide care to patients

Nice To Haves

  • Special emphasis in Master’s program in the area of Neurogenic Communication Disorders and in Dysphagia
  • Clinical Fellowship (CF) completed in a site providing rehabilitation services.
