About The Position

Chetola Resort is seeking an experienced and guest-focused Sporting Clays Attendant & Instructor to deliver exceptional shooting sports instruction at the Chetola Sporting Reserve. This role is responsible for leading clay shooting experiences—including sporting clays, 5-Stand, and practice range instruction—as well as supporting introductory archery experiences for guests of all skill levels. Sporting Clays Attendants & Instructors play a critical role in shaping memorable guest experiences by combining technical expertise with a welcoming and encouraging teaching style. Whether guiding a first-time shooter through their first successful target or helping experienced guests refine their technique, instructors help create an environment where guests feel confident, safe, and excited to participate. This role works closely with the Clubhouse Attendant and Sporting Reserve leadership to ensure each experience runs smoothly—from guest arrival through instruction and activity completion—while maintaining premium standards across the ranges and equipment. In addition to instruction, this role contributes to the overall success of the Sporting Reserve by supporting operational readiness, helping coordinate group experiences, and identifying opportunities to enhance guest programming and range operations. The right candidate takes pride not only in teaching, but also in helping elevate the overall guest experience and supporting the continued growth of the Sporting Reserve. This position is part-time, typically scheduled during weekends, holidays, and peak resort periods when guest demand is highest. Hours will vary based on bookings, programming, weather, and seasonal demand. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys teaching, values safety and precision, and takes pride in introducing guests to the traditions and excitement of shooting sports in a beautiful outdoor setting.

Requirements

  • Previous shooting instruction or shooting sports experience required.
  • Knowledge of shotgun shooting fundamentals and clay shooting disciplines such as sporting clays, trap, skeet, or 5-Stand.
  • Basic archery knowledge or experience with archery instruction preferred.
  • Strong commitment to firearm and archery safety and responsible range management.
  • Experience teaching or coaching individuals or groups preferred.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and assist with equipment handling.
  • Weekend availability including holidays and peak resort periods.
  • Professional appearance and guest-focused demeanor.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks including equipment transport and setup
  • Basic computer skills required (email, scheduling, POS or booking systems)
  • Comfortable answering phones and communicating with guests professionally

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant certifications such as NSCA instructor certification, NRA certification, archery instructor certification, or similar training are preferred but not required.
  • Previous hospitality, recreation, outdoor, retail, or customer service experience preferred but not required
  • Experience with POS systems or reservation software preferred
  • Retail, guest services, booking, or clubhouse service experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional instruction for clay shooting activities including sporting clays, 5-Stand, and practice ranges.
  • Provide introductory archery instruction, including proper stance, aiming techniques, and safe equipment handling.
  • Teach proper shooting fundamentals including stance, gun mount, target tracking, and safe firearm handling.
  • Lead private lessons, small group instruction, and introductory experiences for guests of varying skill levels.
  • Create a welcoming and encouraging learning environment that builds confidence for beginners and enhances skills for experienced participants.
  • Deliver clear safety briefings and ensure all participants follow proper safety protocols during shooting and archery activities.
  • Assist guests with firearm selection, gun fit, or archery equipment setup prior to activities.
  • Celebrate guest successes and help create memorable milestone moments such as a guest’s first successful clay target or first bullseye.
  • Support special events, corporate outings, and group outdoor experiences.
  • Ensure all range and activity operations meet the highest standards of safety and professionalism.
  • Monitor guests closely during shooting and archery activities to ensure safe equipment handling and adherence to safety procedures.
  • Conduct pre-activity safety briefings and maintain strong situational awareness during all instruction.
  • Coordinate range and archery activity flow to ensure experiences run smoothly and safely.
  • Assist with clay thrower operation, range setup, and archery target preparation.
  • Report any safety concerns or maintenance needs promptly.
  • Inspect and maintain firearms, archery equipment, safety gear, and shooting supplies to ensure safe and premium presentation.
  • Ensure equipment is properly stored, organized, and prepared for upcoming lessons and experiences.
  • Assist with inventory tracking of ammunition, targets, arrows, bows, and related equipment.
  • Support daily equipment checks and range readiness procedures.
  • Ensure golf carts and utility carts used for range operations are regularly cleaned and washed so they remain safe, functional, and presented to guests at premium resort standards.
  • Welcome guests with professionalism and a friendly, confident presence.
  • Assist with guest check-in, waivers, and activity orientation when needed.
  • Answer guest questions about shooting sports, archery, equipment, and available experiences.
  • Partner with the Sporting Reserve team to create a seamless and elevated guest experience.
  • Assist with light bar service including beverages, snacks, and post-experience hospitality offerings.
  • Assist with retail sales including gear, apparel, and rentals.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and presentation of the clubhouse bar and guest seating areas.
  • Identify opportunities to recommend additional experiences or future lessons.
  • Represent Chetola with professionalism, composure, and a guest-first mindset.
  • Support Sporting Reserve leadership in developing new guest programming such as tournaments, group events, beginner workshops, and instructional clinics.
  • Assist in coordinating group experiences including corporate outings, private events, and resort programming.
  • Help identify opportunities to improve guest flow, safety procedures, and overall range operations.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for other instructors or attendants when leading group activities.
  • Contribute ideas that enhance the Sporting Reserve’s reputation as a premier shooting and outdoor experience destination.
