About The Position

This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the supervision of the Associate Executive Director, the Sports Coordinator is responsible for developing, organizing, and implementing high-quality sports programs for youth and/or adults. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in recreation, sportsmanagement, physical education, or related field preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience coordinating youth or adult recreational sports.
  • Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and lead sports leagues, clinics, and camps (e.g., basketball, soccer, volleyball, t-ball, flag football).
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise part-time staff, officials, and volunteer coaches.
  • Communicate regularly with participants, parents, and guardians to ensure a positive experience.
  • Enforce safety guidelines and behavior expectations during all programs.
  • Assist with registration, program promotion, and outreach efforts.
  • Monitor program budgets, supply needs, and equipment inventory.
  • Set up and take down equipment for practices, games, and special events.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and participant satisfaction; make improvements as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records for attendance, incidents, and volunteer hours.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support branch-wide initiatives and events.
