About The Position

Under limited supervision, the purpose of this position is to officiate and supervise the adult men's, women's, or co-ed recreational games and leagues.

Requirements

  • Ability to provide excellent guest service to participants.
  • Ability to communicate effectively when enforcing policies, rules and regulations.
  • Skills in effective interpersonal relations, including conflict resolution.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to demonstrate promptness.
  • Ability to attend all necessary trainings.
  • Ability to speak, write, and understand English.
  • Ability to evaluate conditions in assigned area and make judgments related to safety.
  • Ability to demonstrate a clean and neat appearance.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history.
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • One (1) to two (2) years of experience working in customer service.
  • Previous experience as a participant in an organized sports program.
  • Must have sufficient strength, agility, stamina, and flexibility to lift, carry or move a variety of objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities that permits the employee to communicate effectively in person.
  • Sufficient vision or other powers of observation that permits the employee to review, evaluate and make quick decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity permits the employee to use their hands to make physical signals, use hand tools and remotes.
  • Must have sufficient mobility to officiate kickball games including, running, crouching, jumping, bending, yelling, mechanics, etc.
  • Ability to work under stress from public contact and changing priorities and conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of City of Boulder rules specific to sport being officiated.
  • Knowledge of sports including rules, skills, concepts, and game play.
  • Knowledge of injury prevention & treatment.
  • Previous officiating experience.
  • CPR/ AED, First Aid certification.
  • Formal training as an official.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a safe and secure environment for all participants.
  • Uses appropriate disciplinary techniques with participants and logs all incidents.
  • Interacts and communicates effectively with other officials, facility supervisor, program coordinator, participants, and other employees.
  • Accounts for equipment.
  • Remains composed in emergency situations and makes sound judgment decisions during emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Officiates league games.
  • Maintains a professional manner while on duty, and mediate disputes calmly and professionally.
  • Attends all trainings.
