About The Position

The Sr Accountant - Financial Reporting is responsible for the coordination, preparation, documentation and analytical review of Tampa Electric Company’s external financial reporting, including SEC filings (Forms 10-Q, 10-K, and 8-K) and parent company financial documents. Provides technical support for corporate accounting and financial reporting groups and assumes responsibility for certain ongoing corporate accounting activities, including accounting for long-term debt and the injuries and damages reserve. Serves as the primary liaison with external auditors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • 4 years of work experience related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position.
  • Requires thorough understanding of accounting standards promulgated by the FASB, SEC, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP is required.
  • Must be extremely organized, detailed, deadline and execution-oriented, with strong analysis, communication, and teamwork skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Accounting.
  • 2 years public accounting experience in a big four or national firm.
  • Proficient knowledge of SAP, BPC, & OneStream; proficiency in other financial systems

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the organization and preparation of SEC filings, including Forms 10-Q, 10-K, and 8-K, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Stay current on proposed and final FASB and SEC rules and regulations, conducting research and analysis to assess their impact on accounting and disclosures.
  • Oversee the development of financial statement footnotes and supporting schedules in collaboration with subject matter experts.
  • Prepare select disclosures for SEC filings and parent company reports, maintaining thorough documentation for all external filings in accordance with SOX 404.
  • Coordinate internal review workflows and serve as the primary contact for external auditors.
  • Responsible for accounting for long-term debt and accounting for the injuries and damages reserve, including journal entry preparation, reconciliation to treasury and actuary reports, preparation and tracking of related amounts for budget and forecast, analysis report preparation, research and documentation of any related accounting issues and questions.
  • Coordinate the external audit process across affiliates, serving as a liaison between management and the external audit team to ensure effective communication and timely resolution of audit matters.
  • Perform other responsibilities including assistance with the forecasting and budgeting process, SOX compliance, and technical accounting research, providing flexible and responsive assistance across financial reporting and compliance functions.
