About The Position

The Township is seeking a detail‑oriented, highly skilled Senior Accountant to play a key role in supporting the financial operations of a dynamic municipal organization. Working closely with the Director of Finance, this position is central to ensuring the accurate stewardship, reporting, and oversight of Township funds and assets. Position Overview The Senior Accountant assists the Director of Finance in all financial aspects of the Township, including the receipt, expenditure, accounting, investment, custody, and control of public funds and assets. This position requires strong technical accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field OR A minimum of five (5) years of professional accounting experience may substitute for a formal degree; a combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • 1–3 years of professional accounting experience required.
  • Governmental and fund accounting principles
  • Pennsylvania property tax structure, calculation, billing, and collection
  • Act 511 tax programs, including Business Privilege, Mercantile, and Local Services Tax
  • Proficiency with computerized accounting systems; familiarity with Caselle Connect Governmental Accounting and/or Municipal Tax System (MTS) software is a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with exceptional attention to detail

  • Ability to work efficiently independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment with minimal supervision

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a municipal or governmental environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with Caselle Connect Governmental Accounting and/or Municipal Tax System (MTS) software is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the administration of the Township’s Act 511 tax program, working with the appointed third‑party administrator and compliance team for over 2,000 business tax accounts.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve transactional issues related to real estate, sewer, and trash billing and collection for more than 19,000 properties.
  • Support day‑to‑day financial operations, including: Bank deposits and cash receipting, Online credit card payment processing, Accounts payable and accounts receivable, Escrow and general ledger accounting
  • Research accounting and financial issues and provide guidance to finance staff.
  • Assist with preparation and filing of required state and regulatory reports, including (but not limited to) Liquid Fuels, PURTA, DCED, sales tax, and alternative fuels tax filings.
  • Support the Director of Finance in coordinating and preparing for the annual independent audit, including the preparation of pre‑audit workpapers.
  • Assist with employee pension plan administration, including benefit calculations, enrollments and terminations, account analysis, and special projects; coordinate DROP payment remittances for participating police personnel.
  • Review and/or perform monthly bank and investment account reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and well‑organized accounting records.
  • Provide initial review of accounts payable edit reports.
  • Perform rotating bank deposit runs as needed (mileage reimbursed).
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Director of Finance.
