About The Position

The Sr. Association Executive Director serves as the chief staff officer for the Association and Foundation, responsible for strategy, partnerships, revenue growth (grants and corporate sponsorships), program excellence, operations, and culture. This is a relationship-driven, outward-facing role that grows ADS’s impact across industry, academia, regulatory, and provider communities while ensuring best-in-class governance and financial stewardship. The Sr. Association ED serves as an ex officio advisor to the Institute for Dental Safety and Science to ensure alignment across education, research translation, and industry engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree: advanced degree and/or Certified Association Executive (CAE) strongly preferred
  • Oral healthcare experience: 5 years or more
  • Association Management: 5 years or more highly preferred
  • Hands-on budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and reporting.
  • Marketing experience with keeping and attracting new members in non-profit organizations.
  • Fundraising and grant management skills and experience required.
  • Strong strategic planning skills, including program development and project leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee, recruit, and collaborate with strategic partners.
  • Knowledge of continuing education provider recognition.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient with web-based tools and technology.
  • Ability to maintain composure and remain calm under pressure with a positive attitude.
  • Excellent computer and database management skills; experience with website management, association management systems and registration systems preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead development and execution of the multi-year strategic plan aligned to mission, growth, and impact metrics.
  • Monitor changing conditions related to the industry to enable ADS to provide leadership in developing and communicating programs and resources.
  • Develop and maintain executive-level relationships with strategic partners.
  • Serve as a primary spokesperson; represent ADS at national meetings, media opportunities, and strategic forums.
  • Advise the ADS and Foundation Boards with providing clear reporting, decision-ready recommendations, and action plans regarding programs and projects of importance to the organization so the Boards may effectively carry out their responsibilities.
  • In coordination with the ADS Foundation, develop and execute a comprehensive revenue strategy spanning grants, corporate sponsorships, institutional partnerships, and philanthropic giving.
  • Lead grant proposal development and submission, oversee the team in preparing and organizing grant submission materials, and monitor grant execution.
  • Oversee deliverables for reporting requirements for grants and government contracts.
  • Ensure fiscal integrity, including annual budgets, monthly financials, audits, grant compliance, and legal obligations for 501(c)(6) and 501(c)(3).
  • Maintain policies and procedures aligned with nonprofit best practices and Etherio standards.
  • Manage association staff and consultants, including contractual consultant agreements.
  • Oversee and supports education strategy in coordination with education support staff.
  • Oversee and ensure effective professional development programs are consistent with the Association objectives, including online, live events and educational courseware.
  • Administer an effective internal and external public relations program that is responsive to the needs of the membership and the profession.
  • Oversee membership marketing, member services and member benefits to enhance member and partner experiences.
