About The Position

Under the general guidance of the Purchasing Manager, the Senior Buyer owns and executes purchasing strategies for agricultural materials, equipment, and services across multiple farm locations. This role drives data‑driven procurement decisions by leveraging ERP and supplier management tools to analyze spend, monitor market conditions, and report on purchasing performance and KPI’s. The Senior Buyer applies strong analytical thinking, financial modeling, and market analysis to understand financial markets that influence commodity and category pricing, risk, and total cost of ownership. This role drives competitive sourcing and negotiations with end‑to-end accountability for preparing, negotiating, executing, and managing contracts and agreements to meet operational, financial, and cost objectives. The position requires sound business judgment in ambiguous and time‑sensitive situations, along with strong project management and organizational skills. The Senior Buyer is accountable for identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives that deliver sustainable cost savings, process efficiencies, and enhance supplier performance. Serving as a strategic business partner, the Senior Buyer collaborates effectively with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to support business objectives and maintain strong relationships. The role may include direct reports. Travel up to 5% may be required based on business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution; Supply Chain, Business, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive purchasing experience; agricultural or industrial experience preferred
  • 5+ years of experience utilizing ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and supplier management tools (e.g., SAP, Ariba)
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and financial evaluation skills
  • Ability to independently negotiate contracts, pricing, terms, and supplier agreements
  • Comprehensive understanding of total cost of ownership (TCO) and cost drivers
  • Ability to anticipate issues, assess risk, and apply sound judgment to develop effective solutions
  • Strong influencing and communication skills across operational, technical, and leadership audiences
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, quality, and deadlines
  • Intellectual curiosity with ability to identify areas for continuous improvement; recommending and implementing strategies as assigned
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary information

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working across a multi-site enterprise
  • Experience with SAP and/or Ariba Platforms
  • Experience sourcing agricultural materials, services, and/or capital equipment
  • Contract negotiation and contract management experience
  • Verbal and written fluency in English & Spanish preferred

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage high‑spend procurement categories across multiple agricultural operations
  • Lead development and execution of category strategies informed by supply, demand, capacity, market outlook, risk, and budget considerations
  • Independently prepare, negotiate, execute, and manage contracts and agreements for assigned commodities and services
  • Research assigned markets and apply market intelligence to optimize sourcing and purchasing strategies
  • Deliver measurable cost savings, cost avoidance, and process improvement initiatives
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to align procurement strategies with operational and business needs
  • Collaborate with fleet management, end users, and suppliers to optimize and standardize agricultural equipment
  • Evaluate and select suppliers based on price, quality, service, reliability, financial stability, and long‑term capability
  • Present sourcing strategies, cost savings opportunities, and recommendations to stakeholders, including senior leadership
  • Utilize ERP systems to support analytics, reporting, and KPI tracking
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and governance requirements
  • Successfully operate across both corporate and agricultural environments, including field and remote sites as needed
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned
