What this job involves: The Chief Engineer leads and administers the engineering team in a mission-critical data center environment, ensuring safe and effective operation of machinery and systems while professionally responding to tenant needs and the Data Center Manager. This role protects and improves the value of owner's assets while ensuring data center machinery and systems meet or exceed their rated life. You will serve a leading global data center operator with over 50 high-performance facilities worldwide, supporting nearly 800 customers including approximately 200 Fortune 1000 companies in a demanding, fast-paced environment What your day-to-day will look like:

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Five to seven years of JLL engineering experience or equivalent industry experience
  • Three to five years supervisory experience or experience as Lead Engineer
  • Thorough knowledge of data center HVAC, electrical, plumbing, automation, and life safety/fire protection systems
  • Complete understanding of all data center related codes and standards
  • Professional interaction skills with tenants and contractors
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders up to 30 ft, and work from heights with 300-lb weight limit
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Corrigo, MCIM/Salesforce, Zendesk, and ServiceNow platforms
  • NFPA70E training and critical environment engineering experience
  • Moderate knowledge of manual trades including carpentry and electromechanical repair
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access
  • Leadership ability, presentation capabilities, and strong organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Process accurate time records for Operating Engineers and manage overtime costs within budget parameters
  • Conduct monthly inspections of data center physical conditions and equipment, preparing work orders and requisitions as needed
  • Implement fire protection programs, coordinate emergency procedures, and train property teams on established safety protocols
  • Coordinate tenant construction and capital improvements while reviewing project instructions and blueprints
  • Maintain efficient energy management practices and train team members on energy conservation fundamentals
  • Oversee data center system testing, record procedures and results, and make operational recommendations
  • Manage engineering team inventory, develop supplier relationships, and conduct quarterly vendor quality meetings
