About The Position

Barton Malow Company is currently seeking a Sr. Electrical Engineer in our Preconstruction department based in Southfield, Michigan. Position Overview Barton Malow Company is seeking a highly qualified Electrical Engineer to fill a dual role in electrical engineering and estimating. The ideal candidate must meet rigorous academic, professional, and technical criteria, with a strong emphasis on leadership, communication, and hands-on experience in a variety of facilities. The candidate must demonstrate a strong balance of technical expertise, project experience, leadership, and communication skills. Must be ready to present examples of work and showcase how their skills align with the company’s needs for this significant role

Requirements

  • This position is for a senior level electrical engineer with a minimum of 10 years of electrical engineering design experience with a focus on medium voltage and low voltage electrical power systems design, lighting systems design, and low voltage systems design.
  • Candidates must demonstrate knowledge and familiarity with national electrical engineering firms and electrical contractors.
  • Must possess the ability to prepare engineering and electrical execution bid packages and have the ability to negotiate scopes of services and contracts.
  • The candidate must possess analytical skills with ability to perform electrical load calculations, lighting foot-candle calculations, short circuit and coordination studies, and arc flash studies.
  • Familiarity with power distribution equipment including medium voltage and low voltage switchgears, substations, switchboards, transformers.
  • Candidate must also be familiar with equipment manufacturers (both domestic and international).
  • Knowledge and familiarity with equipment NETA testing and commissioning.
  • The design capabilities are anticipated to cover diverse facilities such as: hospitals, stadiums, high rise buildings, large commercial facilities and industrial facilities.
  • The candidate must demonstrate capabilities performing design on large programs.
  • Have an engineering knowledge on the workflows of engineering and BIM coordination.
  • An accredited Electrical Engineering (EE) degree from a recognized U.S. institution.
  • The Candidate must possess proven ability to manage and lead a team of electrical engineers and estimators to perform their project duties.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills to plan and lead project meetings with Owners, Engineering firms, Contractors, Vendors, and Manufacturers.
  • Ability to train and mentor younger engineers and estimators.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineers with less than 10 years’ experience are encouraged to apply if they think that they can fulfil this position.
  • Knowledge of utility high voltage substations and utility switch yards design is a significant advantage.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with Navisworks and Revit is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with automotive plants and EV battery production facilities is a significant advantage.
  • Estimating: Ability to perform conceptual and detailed project estimates. Familiarity with the estimating process and development of estimates for projects will be considered positive.
  • Construction Support: Candidates with knowledge and experience supporting the field team during the execution of the project will be a plus. In addition, the Candidate must have experience with major equipment procurement process with ability to prepare and/or manage procurement packages process and equipment testing and commissioning procedures.
