Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or closely related field required (Master’s and PhD degrees preferred).
  • 10+ years of hands-on manufacturing and materials development experience with Thermoplastics, including polyolefins, polyolefin elastomers/plastomers, and related packaging polymer materials.
  • Demonstrated expertise in plastics conversion technologies is desired (extrusion, injection molding, blow molding, ISBM etc.)
  • Experience working directly with resin suppliers and compounders on material selection, technical evaluation, trials, troubleshooting, supplier collaboration and implementation of new resin and additive solutions.
  • Knowledge in FDA and EU plastics regulations, standards, and guidance is preferred
  • Self-motivated, innovative, and detail oriented.
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability able to work effectively in a team and individually.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and ability to apply scientific principles to industrial and manufacturing challenges.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills to complete and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret scientific journals, technical documents, and patents.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically as required.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize material science knowledge to lead material innovations, applications, and processes.
  • Critically evaluate and solve material/processing problems, with emphasis on root cause identification and corrective action implementation.
  • Serve as leader within cross-functional teams (R&D, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain) to support Product Development, manufacturing performance, and business objectives.
  • Develop formulations, test methods, and procedures for new products.
  • Utilize and implement the latest technologies to test, analyze, and develop our current and future product lines.
  • Communicate with Material Science Director to develop and solve customer and future business needs.
  • Author procedures, work instructions, and legal documents; conduct technical training sessions for associates and customers.
  • Partner with laboratory management and quality engineering teams to develop robust testing protocols, validation plans, and quality control strategies.
  • Maintain and enforce all company safety, environmental, and department of health requirements.
