About The Position

Under supervision of and in collaboration with the SACASA Director or Supervisor, the Senior Medical Forensic Examiner provides medical forensic exams and ongoing recruitment, training, and scheduling of the Sexual Assault Nurse/Forensic Examiners (SANEs/SAFEs). The position also researches and updates curriculum, develops standards and protocols, and provides interdisciplinary collaboration and consultation to ensure practice protocols are current.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in public or health administration, Nursing, or Forensic Sciences AND two (2) plus years’ experience coordinating or supervising the work of others in public health, nursing or forensic sciences.
  • Bachelors degree in public or health administration, Nursing, or Forensic Sciences AND three (3) plus years related experience coordinating or supervising the work of others in public health, nursing or forensic sciences.
  • Crisis intervention (direct service) experience preferred in the sexual violence field.
  • Licensure by the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health or the Arizona Board of Nursing
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card required if working with minors or in residential programs
  • Valid Arizona Drivers license, proof of current insurance and willingness to use personal vehicle. Drivers license is an essential requirement for performing duties for this position.
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record - no more than 2 moving violations or a license suspension in past 3 years.
  • Will complete 15 hours of self-study or Continuing Education Unites pertaining to sexual assault or related issues during a 15-month period.
  • Must be able to provide own transportation to and from hospitals, meetings, and/or other relevant organizations/agencies.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Knowledge of behavioral health challenges which include knowledge of the impacts of mental illness, domestic violence, and the dynamics of addictive behavior.
  • Familiarity with various ethnic and cultural groups.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills using MS Office products, Word, Excel, Access, etc., importing/exporting data to/from applications.
  • Ability to interact effectively with other service providers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred but not required.
  • Bilingual a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Completes Medical Forensic Exams (MFEs) during regular work hours and provides back‐up coverage for on-call hours when needed.
  • Manages and updates the monthly SANE/SAFE on‐call schedule, including the online SANE/SAFE calendar.
  • Schedules and coordinates all elements of SANE/SAFE clinical training and preceptorships. Ensures that SANEs/SAFEs meet training requirements in a timely manner.
  • Provides on‐going SARS protocol trainings to all Tucson‐area Emergency Departments.
  • In collaboration with program Director or Supervisor, interviews potential candidates for contract positions.
  • Maintains complete minutes of scheduled SANE meetings.
  • Participates in internal agency and external community trainings.
  • Manages maintenance, ordering and stocking of clinical equipment and supplies for exam sites and the mobile bags.
  • In collaboration with the program Director or Supervisor, maintains confidential SARS patient files and SARS patient photo‐documentation records.
  • Coordinates SANE/SAFE MFE chart reviews and conducts audits within scheduled rotation to ensure quality compliance.
  • Participates in collaborative efforts with other agencies during monthly Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) meetings and with SARS partners through one‐on‐one meetings.
  • Works collaboratively with law enforcement, Attorney General’s Office, Pima County Attorney’s office and local victims’ services providers.
  • Participates in staffing, case conferences, case review, chart review, and other meetings, as appropriate.
  • Promotes maintenance of survivor records in accordance with agency and funding source requirements.
  • Follows all SANE/SAFE and SARS policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties in accordance with agency growth and changes.
