About The Position

The Sr. Paralegal Specialist role should appeal to a paralegal professional who is intellectually curious, skilled in the areas of FTC guidelines, consumer protection regulations, copyright/trademark law, and contracts, enjoys a broad scope of responsibility yet is willing to go deep to solve problems, precise in written and verbal communication, able to work autonomously as needed, takes pride in one’s work, and is motivated to further develop professionally. The Sr. Paralegal Specialist reports to the Chief Legal Officer directly and operates at, and is part of, the group-level legal team providing legal support to all K1 companies. In particular, the Sr. Paralegal Specialist supports senior marketing management, as well as contracts administration more generally, to support the marketing and advertising teams by ensuring all promotional activities and brand initiatives comply with relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies. This person will act as a bridge to these creative teams, translating complex legal requirements into actionable, day-to-day guidance. In addition, this person will assist in the management and administration of all legal agreements for K1.

Requirements

  • Education: A paralegal certificate and/or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience: 5-10 years of direct legal experience (in-house or outside counsel), specifically focusing on marketing, advertising and contracts management. Intellectual Property law experience preferred.
  • Soft Skills: Precision in written and verbal communication; meticulous attention to detail; the ability to deal with ambiguity and work in a startup environment; and strong collaborative skills.
  • Legal Knowledge: Strong familiarity with FTC guidelines, consumer protection regulations, copyright/trademark law, and contracts.

Nice To Haves

  • Industry Knowledge: Cellular industry experience preferred.
  • Language: Chinese language proficiency preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Compliance Review: Examine advertisements, scripts, storyboards, and social media content for compliance with FTC guidelines, consumer protection laws, and industry-specific regulations.
  • Drafting and Documentation: Create initial drafts of sweepstakes/contest rules, promo terms and conditions and boilerplate marketing contracts. Develop training materials for marketing professionals.
  • Quality Assurance (QA): review of all marketing materials for consistency, brand marks/naming conventions, grammar and typos.
  • Intellectual Property (IP) Support: Secure trademark clearance for new campaigns and marketing initiatives, manage trademark filings and renewals, and monitor for potential brand infringement.
  • Contract Administration: Review and negotiate routine agreements with potential customers, suppliers and advertising agencies.
  • Regulatory Research: Coordinate with outside privacy counsel to track changes in advertising, privacy, and data security laws (such as GDPR or CCPA) to keep marketing strategies updated.
  • Technical Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for day-to-day inquiries from marketing, communications, and UX/UI development teams.
