About The Position

Are you a detail-oriented and experienced professional with a passion for quality and manufacturing? BAE Systems is seeking a talented Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) to join our Procurement Quality Support Engineering (PQSE) team with up to 50% travel. Ideally this candidate would be located in the metro Detroit area, and remote work within the US would be considered. As an SQE, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality of our suppliers' products by being the ‘boots on the ground’ engineer at suppliers’ sites, solving non-conformances, being a liaison to internal partners, and reviewing and approving technical reports. In this role, you will:

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with 4+ years of experience in creating, reviewing, or approving FAI/FATs, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with Failure Analysis, Root Cause Analysis, and Corrective/Preventative Actions
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and AS9100 Quality Systems, AS9102 First Article Requirements, and industry standards (ASME, ASTM, SAE, etc.)
  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME/ASQ Y14.5)
  • Practical problem-solving skills and experience with quality gauges and measuring tools
  • Effective communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Quality) or related discipline
  • Experience in a Defense Prime Contract environment
  • Knowledge of PPAP and APQP documentation
  • Experience with product line validation, test plans, and product qualification
  • Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma concepts and tools (e.g., Green/Black Belt)
  • Knowledge of Toyota Production System (TPS) and A3 problem-solving tools

Responsibilities

  • Travel onsite to suppliers (25-50%) to enforce quality standards, build relationships, and drive continuous improvement
  • Evaluate FAI and FAT plans/reports to ensure compliance with technical requirements and industry standards (AS9102 and performance specifications)
  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure timely and accurate submission of FAI/FATs
  • Work with internal teams and suppliers to resolve discrepancies and non-conformance issues
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing data to assess FAI/FAT completeness and suitability
  • Provide technical support and guidance on FAI/FAT processes to internal teams and suppliers
  • Promote a "Zero Defect" mentality and A3 problem-solving practices within the supply base
