About The Position

The Senior Production Manager role is a critical role on our Transmission Manufacturing team. This role is accountable for end-to-end manufacturing performance across all transmission production areas. This role has direct accountability for the production managers and their respective teams. This role owns plant-level execution, including production output, efficiency, quality, safety, labor effectiveness, and operational problem resolution. The person in this role is expected to think systematically, anticipate risk, and ensure consistent results through strong leadership rather than direct operator management. Reporting to the Senior Director of Operations, this role serves as a primary driver of day-to-day manufacturing stability and performance. Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience leading a team of at least 20 people in the manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated ability and experience with Lean/Six-Sigma principles and methodologies
  • Bachelor’s degree in any technical, business, or management field of study (a combination of additional professional certifications, such as Lean/Six-Sigma black belt, and remanufacturing management experience can be considered instead of a bachelor’s degree)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead under fast-paced, high-pressure scenarios in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong analytical capabilities, including ability to export, manipulate, and interpret data from a variety of sources
  • Detail-oriented with strong communication skills
  • Strong ability to learn new systems and manage organization of multiple systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Outlook/Calendar, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to type at least 50 words per minute
  • Proficiency in ERP (Syteline ERP preferred) systems, including ability to solve problems for regularly occurring issues, such as issues with job operations or inventory.
  • Ability to create, read, understand, and train employees on work instructions, specifications, parts lists, and quality alerts
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand for 8+ hours per day
  • General ability to use tools and other instruments

Responsibilities

  • Own overall production performance across transmission manufacturing operation, including daily, weekly, and monthly targets
  • Ensure consistent attainment of output, schedule adherence, labor efficiency, and capacity goals
  • Own all Transmission Manufacturing team requirements regarding parts requests and escalations to the Supply Chain team
  • Identify systemic risks to production plans early and lead cross-functional corrective actions to mitigate those risks
  • Act as the escalation owner for all staffing challenges
  • Set clear expectations for how production managers lead their supervisors and teams, manage performance, and resolve problems
  • Coach and develop production managers to operate with autonomy, accountability, and strong decision-making
  • Identify high-potential leaders and actively develop succession plans for critical operational roles
  • Conduct regular 1:1 meetings with all direct reports to review performance, risk, and development progress.
  • Develop and maintain regular meeting cadences with all accountable teams
  • Ensure 100% proper System (Syteline ERP) adherence by all members across every level of the Transmission Manufacturing team
  • Ensure that Transmission Manufacturing leaders (Managers and Supervisors) are keeping their respective operational areas organized
  • Help to implement 5S methodologies across manufacturing areas
  • Drive standardization of best practices across shifts, departments, and product lines
  • Ensure structured problem-solving methodologies are used consistently and effectively
  • Partner with Quality and Safety teams to support audits, investigation, corrective actions, and prevention efforts
  • Ensure standard processes are followed 100% of the time and that expectations are clearly communicated
  • Constantly communicate production challenges to direct leader and subsequent company senior leadership team, as necessary, and what corrective actions are being utilized
  • Provide data-backed explanations of gaps, risks, and recovery plans
  • Review and approve performance reviews submitted by Production Managers
  • Support and lead major operational changes, including process updates, system changes, and new production introductions
  • Train and hold accountable the Production Managers/Supervisors for using all company-specific systems, including IT support ticketing system
