About The Position

The New York Times' Advertising team is looking for an organizational and operational focused Senior Project Manager for Creative Technology to join us. You will be the necessary operational and planning leader for a highly technical engineering team. This is a hybrid role based in our New York headquarters, reporting to the Senior Manager, Creative Technology. You can typically expect to be in the office 3 days per week. You will drive project delivery and operational excellence by serving as the primary architect of Creative Technology's workflows. By capturing and analyzing internal performance data, you will transform raw information into actionable process efficiencies, growing our high-volume engine into a scalable and lean process. As a strategic liaison, you will bridge the gap between software development teams with our creative, product, marketing, and sales partners, translating complex requirements into clear roadmaps. You will be responsible for managing internal capacity and steering high-stakes initiatives, from large-scale ad product modernization to bespoke custom content, ensuring every project meets our rigorous standards for quality and punctuality.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience in project management, with a focus on software or web development
  • 5+ years of extensive experience managing complex, multi-discipline projects with all partners
  • Demonstrated understanding of the software development lifecycle
  • High proficiency with project management software (e.g., Jira, Asana) and an understanding of Agile methodologies

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a media, publishing organization, or technical teams with an emphasis on branded content, ad formats, or advertising technology
  • Experience with public speaking especially with partners and clients to resolve conflicts thoughtfully
  • Experience working on collaborative teams

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team's Agile ceremonies, including daily stand-ups and sprint retrospectives. Resolve process bottlenecks and improve the team's development workflows
  • Establish standards for project tickets, ensuring clarity and completeness of information for the development team. Train team members and external partners on how to submit clear, relevant requests
  • Maintain a clear, short- and medium-term project schedule, forecasting the team's capacity
  • Contact for external teams, streamlining communication and clarifying project specifications to minimize distractions for developers.
  • Use Jira to monitor individual and team throughput, identifying specific friction points in the development lifecycle in order
