About The Position

The Amentum ESSCA group is seeking a highly skilled Senior Simulation Integration Engineer to join our team in support of the Human Lander System (HLS) project at Marshall Space Flight Center. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in the design, development, and utilization of software simulations and hardware emulations. The responsibilities of this position include: Supporting Hardware/Software Integration activities on the Human Landing Systems (HLS) Program. Conduct independent engineering assessments of software development activities and products from requirements through flight operations phases to improve the quality of the flight software and reduce the risk of in-flight, software-induced operational anomalies. Provide support for HLS as Emulator/Simulator Lead to manage the technical development of emulators and simulators required for internal and Cross Program Development and V&V activities. Communicate technical capabilities of Emulator/Simulation deliverables to the broader team. Support meetings as a subject matter expert to facilitate communication between Emulator/Simulation stakeholders regarding capabilities needed, design, I&T, delivery, operation, and discrepancy reporting. Coordinate with stakeholders and providers regarding Emulator/Simulation Pre-ship checkout and the content of the Acceptance Data Package. Participate in various reviews such as PSRs, TRRs, involving Emulator/Simulation. Assist receiving parties with integrating and accepting emulators/simulators for usage in applicable facilities and coordinate troubleshooting efforts. Support internal, external, and project level reviews, working groups, vendor technical interchange meetings, milestone reviews, peer reviews, code walkthroughs, and other project meetings associated with the software delivery life cycle. Provide regular reports to the Group Lead and NASA customers. Identify and communicate risks to project management.

Requirements

  • Expertise in Cross-Program SIM-to-SIM (emulators) Integration and Testing (Hardware in the loop, all SIMs, High-Level Architecture (HLA)).
  • Extensive experience with software end-to-end testing and hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) testing for avionics and software systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of software and hardware integration, including the design, development, and utilization of hardware/software simulators and emulators for integration, test, and verification of various systems and subsystems.
  • Working knowledge of software certification, spacecraft avionics architectures, and flight software implementation.
  • Experience with spacecraft HITL/HOOTL testbeds, writing requirements for spacecraft and/or subsystem verification and validation, and spacecraft-based RF communication design and testing.
  • Proficiency with spacecraft implementation of ethernet communication protocols and architectures.
  • Experience developing technical procedures, non-conformance documentation, and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of the architecture of software simulations and emulators, and the integration of heterogeneous software simulations and hardware emulations.
  • Familiarity with software languages such as C, C++, shell scripting, XML, Java, or other object-oriented languages.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, communication, and customer relation skills – must be able to clearly define and describe technical subjects to peers across various engineering disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of NASA NPR 7150.2 and government standards and requirements.
  • Ability to work with minimal oversight, multi-task, and be proactive in between formal assignments.
  • Working knowledge of digital/analog electronics, sensors, transducers, instrumentation, and wiring harnesses, as well as aerospace or aviation avionics closed-loop control systems.
  • General knowledge of flight avionics test data analysis.
  • Experience with systems engineering for highly complex systems that operate with real-time, embedded software control.
  • General knowledge of Agile or other similar software methodologies.
  • Must be able to work on-site at Marshall Space Flight Center.
