About The Position

At Zappos/Shopbop Tech, we're on a mission to deliver unparalleled shopping experiences to our customers. We're seeking a Software Development Engineer III (SDE3) to join our Discovery Team, the heart of the customer journey across our premium fashion platforms. As an SDE3, you will help lead software development for the core customer journey on Zappos.com and Shopbop.com - from Homepage to checkout: Search, Search Results, Homepage, Ads, Widgets, Recommendations, and much more. The Shopbop/Zappos Discovery Tech team owns the core backend services that power top-of-funnel product discovery across our platforms. Some of the services we own include: Content Service (manually scheduled content), Search API & Filters, Recommendations, Ads, Lists, and more. We partner closely with data scientists to launch new ranking algorithms in Search.

Requirements

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
• Bachelor's degree
• 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

Responsibilities

• Lead and Innovate: Drive the development and maintenance of Java-based applications leveraging AWS services (ECS, SQS, S3, DynamoDB). Your work will ensure our architecture supports scalable, maintainable, and high-quality solutions.
• Collaborate for Success: Work hand-in-hand with product managers, UX designers, and engineers. Your role will be pivotal in creating optimal customer experiences, steering technology choices, and ensuring the architectural integrity of our systems.
• Mentor and Elevate: Guide junior developers, raising the coding standards bar and providing constructive feedback. Your expertise will help mold the next generation of engineers.
• Navigate Ambiguity: Tackle complex problems without a predefined technology strategy. You'll balance business needs with technical solutions, ensuring scalability and future growth.
• Champion Best Practices: Your code will not only solve problems efficiently but also serve as a benchmark for quality and best practices within the team.
• Continuous Learning and Leadership: As a key influencer in team strategy and goals, you'll foster an environment of growth, inclusivity, and open dialogue.
