About The Position

The Missle Solutions Segment of L3Harris is currently seeking an experienced Sr. Specialist, Project and Component Engineer. This role will be located out of our Missile Solutions facility located in Canoga Park, CA. The Project and Component Engineer will assist in executing multiple phases of Pressurant and Propellant components (i.e. tanks, pressure switch, filters, regulators, transducers and valves) within assigned defense programs, as well as supporting advanced propulsion systems. Communicates with contacts within and outside of own department and may occasionally have responsibility for communicating with parties external to the organization (e.g., customers, vendors, etc). Responsible to identify, define, communicate and address general issues typically encountered within job area or function. Project and Component engineer will be expected to collaborate with multiple engineering, operational, quality, and supply chain functions to ensure successful component completion.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant Engineering experience.
Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related Engineering experience.
In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.

Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
Experience with Microsoft Office products (Project, Excel, Powerpoint, Word).
Engineering drawing and GD&T application experience
Ability to understand technical drawings and specifications as well as working knowledge of general production systems/methods and lean manufacturing principles.
Familiar or Experienced in Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and experience/responsible as a cost account manager.
Experience with government propulsion customers and prime contractors.
Experience in mentoring early career or junior engineers across multiple engineering backgrounds and experience.
Strong Comprehensive knowledge of Project Engineering.
Experienced in business and engineering schedule cadence of both development-type and production-centric programs.
Demonstrated strong communication skillsets that involve multiple cross-function engineering organizations, managements, program technical leadership and program management.
Experience working in the defense industry with an existing clearance is a plus
Experience working as an Integrated Product Team Lead [IPTL] or a deputy Integrated Product Team Lead [dIPTL] is highly desired.
Experienced, or heavily involved, in Failure/Anomaly investigations of project components, assemblies, or system integration.
Experienced in evaluating component environment test results and qualification processes.
Experience with CAD software tools (CREO), and PLM Systems (Windchill) is a plus
Familiarity or experience in generating proposals including work breakdown structures (WBS) definition, Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) definition, validation test planning, and Pricing Inputs for Basis of Estimate (BOE).
Experienced with the design, manufacturing, or testing involved in the production of liquid rocket engine thrusters, valves, pressure regulators, pressure switches, tanks, or transducers is desired. Experience in small hypergolic propulsion systems, such as divert attitude control thrusters, is highly desired.

Responsibilities

Works under consultative direction with minimal oversight and has responsibility for project or processes within the functional program management area.
Communicates well, both verbal and written, with contacts within and outside the organizations (e.g. customers, suppliers, etc.) for execution of the project objectives.
Provide realistic, practical, and robust solutions throughout a wide range of technical problems involving the conventional utilization of engineering techniques.
Assist in managing the technical, cost and schedule elements of a project utilizing Earned Value Management principles to ensure the overall program’s financial well-being as well as assisting in the proposal development process prior to submittal to customers.
Close collaboration with technical teams to develop and implement propulsion production processes, tooling and equipment design, material evaluation plans, data analysis and application activities in support of the projects.
Responsible for developing and monitoring/updating project plans consistent with the overall program plan and established command media.
Responsible for briefing management and supporting program managers in briefing customers on all facets of assigned projects.
Up to 30% business travel to suppliers and other production sites may be required.
Position may require extended hours as needed to meet business objectives.
